Santo Domingo.– Dominican health officials have confirmed that the deaths of another 3 persons were the result of the AH1N1 virus, which raises to 8 the total number of fatalities in the country.

Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said that the deaths are related to 8 cases that were being investigated and that none of them occurred during the last few weeks.

The ministry has designed a special plan to be carried out in the educational centers along with the Ministry of Education due to the fact that schools are places for the spreading of the AH1N1 virus.

On the other hand, the ministry informed it already has the logistics to take care of an eventual second wave of the pandemic, in case it should occur, as the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently warned as the result of lower temperatures caused by the approaching of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Does anyone actually believe this? People make themselves look so incredibily stupid saying things which anyone with half a brain knows is a lie.

8 is not a bad number when you factor in the number of people that come in and out of DR daily plus the population of Dominicans and illegals living on the island. I thought that this number might be higher

xwill, these numbers are provided by the Sec. de Salud. I for one, don't believe what they publish is 100% factual. The actual number may be much greater, plus the deaths that have occured without being diagnosed. Nobody really knows. This is certain: If the H1N1 flu cases explode as the CDC feels that it has a good chance of doing, it will affect the DR in a very negative way. The DR public schools are waiting time bombs for this virus, overcrowded with children (prime targets), many of which have never been trained/taught the importance of personal hygiene.

Strange! The last heard about the flue, there were NO cases (or just a few maybe...) in the DR while other countries were reporting thousands. And then, there was the doctors' strike. Are people affected just not going to clinics? Is there a national campain for minimal precautions? On TV? In schools? In local clinics? And again, minimal precautions are difficult to assure in many poor areas. Numbers of cases are down everywhere but expected to go up again when temperatures are cooler... And what about when tourists start travelling South?

Strange comment!
You're in Chicago. You should know better. How can you attribute the number of cases to the number of people in and out of a country and to illegals??????? LOL
