Santo Domingo.– A new strategy plan for the recovery of the communities affected by devastating tropical storms Noel and Olga in December 2007 was presented yesterday by the Committee for Following the Recovery of provinces Duarte and Barahona, as well as near by areas.

Representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), governmental authorities and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) attended the meeting held in the San Diego Club in San Francisco de Macoris.

According to experts, the project will need an investment of US$1.0 million for the support of the small businesses affected by the storms, mainly in the commercial aspects, services and productive sector. Part of the funds will be assigned to small business and environmental projects in both provinces.

The UNDP presented 42 certificates of approval of projects, 26 initiatives in Barahona and 16 in Duarte, with which the campaign for a transition towards human development is in its way.

juanb, took the words from me. Amazing. What would happen if a Major Storm (Cat 3+) makes landfall on SD? At this rate, it would be 60 momths for a recovery plan !

Am I wrong in saying....Nothing like studying Problems, it's a good excuse not to find solutions.

While the representatives of the UN are at San Diego Club in San Francisco de Macoris thinking / drinking / thinking on how to spend the 1.0 Million US Dollars or RD 35. ? Million needed, meanwhile "the Campaign for a transition towards Human Development is on it's way"..... I think I feel better already.

2007 huh ! why the wait ? I get it ......Things should be rockin by 2011, like always too little too late, now that's progress Dominican style.
God save the DR.

Trying to save towns effected by storms from two years ago is pretty funny. Leave these politicians without food and water for two years and see how they survive.

VeronicaDR,

Well said.

May I also add....Like always the possibility / smell of proposed monies is what gets the Politicos up and running and scrambling towards so called solutions with experts in tow.

Why not deal directly with the People / Farmers affected who need it most and side step the Politicos in the first place and see the 1.0 Million US Dollars spent towards the People 100%.

Then we'll see real progress first hand, and let the politicos plan / study / fumble over past Catastrophes even the 1946 Quake all they want, minus..... DA MONEY.

QUESTION: Doe's the U.S Gov. even have "DA 1.0 Million dollars" to begin with ?

IS IT NO WONDER WHY NOTHING EVER GETS DONE IN THE DR.

THE PEOPLE OF THE DR should push them Selves towards being SELF SUFFICIENT and in control of there own destiny.

Like the old saying......."Money is the root of all Evil".

Take care.

GOD BLESS the DR, not Mans own twisted misleading version of the True meaning.

So many years with the same B.S. when will the D.R. gov't learn that innocent lives are more important than $. Planning 2-3 yrs later will not help; the people should understand that living near rivers and areas that can be potentially dangerous. All the US cash that flows in DR the govt should stop stealing and get things done! CONO!
