Santo Domingo.– President Leonel Fernandez will attend the 13th African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in Tripoli, Libya, August 30 - 31, fullfilling an invitation by Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Fernandez would speak on the Latin America and Caribbean region.

During a meeting between Fernandez and Gaddafi last July, as part of the Non-Aligned Nations Summit held in Egypt, the Libyan chief executive stated his desire to appoint a permanent ambassador in the Dominican Republic, which had established diplomatic relations since 2006.

Fernandez will travel with Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, his press secretary Rafael Nunez, secretary of state Miguel Mejia and the director of the Dominican Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) Eddy Martinez.

Man, that is an impressive "frequent flier" account.

With so much travel, how does this guy ever find time to take of issues of importance to Dominican populace.

Yes, I concur, I believe LF is clearly looking at life beyond presidency of DR. However, legacy of corruption might render him unqualified for UN presidency. Who cares!

abc for president!

I want my solar-powered scooter.

Nupe,

You said: "I believe that Fernandez will be like the "Teflon Don" when it comes to corruption being pinned on him.

Mostly Dominicans and those with knowledge of the country talk about the widespread corruption."

In DR, he is already a "teflon don".

Perhaps LF is under-appreciated in his own country, but that's where it really matters most.

Being president of DR is tough job and I wouldn't want it even at gun point! You got the oligarchy on one side, an expansive poor population on another, and then a large immigrant and undocumented population sector. Clearly, a "no win" situation for anyone but a strong-man ruler-type. Period.

Glomarexplorer,

I believe that Fernandez will be like the "Teflon Don" when it comes to corruption being pinned on him.

Mostly Dominicans and those with knowledge of the country talk about the widespread corruption.

Everyone else seem to be mute on the issues. IMHO.

Leonel is one of the new breed of progressive leaders
While others head of states sit on their butts getting drunk and ignoring the plight of the people
Leonel has shown alacrity, good character and statemenship qualities.
He understands that in order to move your country forward ( Pa'lante)you must be above all a good salesman and a smart CEO.
Good salesmen and pragmatic CEO's do flight a lot securing opportunities and businesses for their country and the neighborhood regions
All countries of the latin America and the Caribbean will reap the benefits of his savoir faire , his tact, his finesse and steady lerdership.
Leonel you are doing a superb job .
Ignore the barking.
