"Vincho" Castillo, in a brief roadside interview for DT.

Santo Domingo.- The Presidency’s Adviser on drugs proposed yesterday, in light of  the recent wave of denunciations on alleged government corruption, that all officials resign their posts so that president Leonel Fernandez isn’t forced to fire anyone and choose those who’ll stay and those who won’t.

Marino Vinicio Castillo said the Head of State must make drastic Cabinet changes because a renewal creates favorable expectations in the government, and that the private sector also co-contributes to alleged government corruption, since it’s about business dealings.

The famed jurist, interviewed Saturday on Channel 5, said when an official incurs in “indelicacies,” weaknesses or irregularities, the reality is that it’s a “felony” and an abuse.

Castillo said the citizens’ perception of government corruption is heightened by the fact that Fernandez is a decent man who’s given autonomy and independence to his officials, to bolster decentralization.

“I’ve discussed it with him, for a long time I’ve encouraged him by telling him, no Mr. President, that easiness of yours is well perceived by many, but unfortunately sometimes designees arrive at the positions who are sort of half lost.”

The official said on the denunciations of alleged government corruption the population is waiting a more categorical and more energetic reaction by Fernandez.

He said the country’s middle-class is currently more hostile towards the Government because it’s dealing with difficult moments, but noted that many poor sectors are being helped by official programs.

This is the first thing from Vincho's mouth that I agree with 100%. But, I won't hold my breath, these Funcionarios are not honorable men/women in any sense of the word. LF has a mess on his hands and doesnt know how to deal witrh it. If he continues to ignor it as he has done till now, this cancer may grow to the point where he soon will be on a plane wearing only his pajamas, jetting off to no-mans land...like our friend Mel !

Asking those cara duras to resign, is a cartload of wishful thinking. LF has to act and not ask for permission from anyone, Balaguer style. Otherwise he will keep on losing power and influence, as he already has, and his government will lack the sorely needed fresh faces that it needs for a new and fresh beginning, that will send a message of change and renewal to the voters.

Nice try from an old Trujillista!

What Vincho, is trying to say is that it’s not Lie-onel Fernandez’s fault that corruption flows through the PLD and the government like water in the Ozama after a hurricane. The poor little Lie-onel is just an honest angel in a den of wolfs.

Sorry Vinchito that dog wouldn’t hunt.

You see there’s the matter of the Sunland Deal/Loan, the METRO boondoggle, the presidential pardon to a convicted participant in a multi billion dollar theft, just to name a few of his holiness’s transgressions. Add to that the almost twelve years of non-consecutive governance and ZERO progress on the energy crisis and what you have in Mr. Fernandez is an incompetent corrupt empty suit.

All you Lie-onelitas put your eggs in the one basket of “Lie-onel is the only person capable of governing the country,” and now that he has proven to be a dismal failure you are trying to rehabilitate him by passing the buck to others.

True the government is corrupt because of our cultural traditions, but you sold us the PLD and Lie-onel Fernandez as the enlighten ones, smarter, more honest and less corruptible than all others, they could walk on water; but now they have proven to be even worse and the public is waking up.

So Vincho, go try to sell that used car to somebody else, the Dominican masses don’t believe you or Lie-onel Fernandez; he’s not a victim of corrupt cabinet officials he is the victimizer of the Dominican people and you are what you have always been, an apologist for wealthy criminals and the corrupt.

That is what the DR needs. Wipe the slate clean. These people have no scruples, morals, ethics or accountability.

I did have faith LF would do something good.

He just has no balls. What a waste for 4 more years.

This guy is saying that all officials resign so fernandez wont have to be forced to removed anyone, that would never happen because lieonel would have to removed himself, also leonel fernandez is a president doing a thrid term in office this is a corrupted party from top to bottom

There is still time to open the gates for honest politics from the younger generation, especially Dominican women and young professionals, who work hard and are less tempted by easy money.
This endeavor will take humungous amounts of moneys, not just the few millions that it takes to get a new party approved by the JCE, since you will need branches all over the country, and a permanent presence in the diaspora as well. But it can be done, most likely taking advantage of the power vacuum that exists at present, and the public disenchantment for the same old, same old, way of conducting cronyism style politics.

Most new ideas start at universities and I am hoping that this time that is where they will start again because I have a feeling everyone is wanting to see a new way of life in this country , free of all the old rhetoric and mal practice .

Ricardolito,

Study Guillermo Moreno, you may not agree with all his position but his integrity is unquestionable.

He bailed on the PLD and Lie-onel Fernandez in his first administration because he saw the corruption up close and personal as the national district's prosecutor. We he tried to prosecute he was told to look the other way and when he would not he was canned.

Until now he is the best hope we have for an honest president and government in 2012!

the officials should defenitelly not resign, what it does is relief president Fernandez from doing his Job, Instead he should just fire whoever is found responsible for corruption as his job responsibilities require of him. Living in Washinton, Dc I have seen officials with lower possitions doing massive firing, that is what he needs to do in order to recover the public confidence not doing so is a misrepresentation of the public interest, which common in Dominican politics.

Redardless of any political affiliations, this man has made a stand. Much as Obama did 2 months ago regarding the Isreali settlements in Gaza(yet to see action). I applaupe this man for speaking out and taking a stand in a country that respects only those who draw the party line and have deep pockects while doing so. I am quite well read in Dominican politics (if that is actually possible) and this man has stood up grabed his balls and said basically "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired" God Bless him. Let"s get on board and support more of these guys who actually care about not only the DR but the world itself. I have followed this site for a long time and I speak out now because I have never seen anyone ever...ever try to make a difference. This man is on the right track. I lived 10 of my best years in DR, my wife is Dominican, I only wish that others could care as much as this man is trying to be.

Gentlemen,
You cannot hold president Fernandez responsible for the Dominican debacle as it stands any more than you can George Bush for the faiures of the American economy. Do your homework and you wil see that bankers and their lending practices have hit us all quite hard. How does one clean up a mess inherited or otherwise, TIME, TIME heals all lest we remember. And boy will we need some time. But remember as my grandfather who lived through the depression said "A man who works everyday feeling that he has contributed in some way whatever size he may feel it to be has contributed to society, regardless of his stature there within" Point being times ARE tough, pony up, don't ask your government or any other group to "bail" you out..

Take off the rose colored glasses.

LF is a empty suit, he condones corruption, graft, nepotism and is a shameless liar.

His short sightedness has kept the country in the 3rd world with 80% of his public severely under educated.

He is supposed to lead by example and he is incapable of doing that. He has the inbred entitlement gene that makes him believe he is doing good.

This is the deal lf actually is one of the best president the country has had. He's been exposed to the american system himself, by living and educating himself in Nyc. This gave him an idea of how humans should live, something other presidents before him didn't know or didn't think poor people deserve, which is also why dominicans migrate from dr. Now I'm not excusing him or giving him credit, but I'm being realistic.

Well now, since the PLD and the PRD are sleeping together, I'm all for a new party of Real Patriots that will put the country and the flag before the almighty $$$$$. I know it sounds like a fiction novel but if you can find enough honest uncorruptable people that love the country enough it can be done. GOD HELP US ALL.

Ricardolito, go for it!

Unfortunaly, the dominican republic will take a very long time to catch up with other nations. One of the things bothers me the most is the disparity in the population, some people have so much money and others have literally nothing so little that they can't even have a decent nutrition. The unemployment rate is ridicously, and this prevent people from living with dignity.
