SANTO DOMINGO.- National Police chief Rafael Guzmán today ordered the transfer of the entire personnel of the Police precinct and posts in the southern city Azua, just one day after Peravia province senator Wilton Guerrero said most of those agents “are the service” of drug traffickers, and after three people were gunned down, including a Police sergeant, were gunned down in an allegedly botched drug rip-off.

The Police chief also ordered the Antinarcotics and Internal Affairs sections to investigate the 194 agents stationed in that province, to determine if they in fact have links to narcotics traffickers.

Yesterday the ruling PLD party senator said more than 20 police, officials and lower ranks among them, are involved in drug trafficking in Azua, and that not a single drug deal takes place in that territory without the police agents’ consent.

Guzmán said those found guilty will be fired and indicted, since the police is the first institution which must set the example, reiterating that he’ll adhere to the mandate on zero tolerance against drug trafficking and crime.

It appears that Senator Guerrero has more juice than Lie-onel Fernandez. If he would only take up the issue of corruption then we might get some action even if only token like these transfer.

Senator Guerrero is probably one the last of true Boschistas left in the PLD cesspool!

"Zero Tolerance" huh. Heard that before.

You'd think that if a sergeant and lower ranks have SUVs and nice homes they should be fired and jailed?

Why is it so hard for Dominicans to know “Just follow the money”? If the person can not give you a good reason why they have all that cash, then they are dirty.

No matter how you shake it, this is obviously a positive step.

I don't know much about senator Guerrero, but his comments make sense and seem commendable. I remain a bit skeptical, however, particularly when many contributor to this forum seem to have sunk to a low level of expectations. Any time some one says anything sensible and ordinary, they immediately clamor for that individual to be recruited to be president. No wonder our government history is laden with rotten examples.

Mr. Guerrero, I hope you are the real thing and a true patriot of greatest integrity, because the hopes of many ordinary Dominicans, inexplicably, ride on your shoulders.

I try not to make comments but it is funny the way everybody has a comment. We all need to step up to the plate and help change our home land not only talk smack about every thing that goes on.
