This is what happens when your country is being developped and only a minority is enjoying its developement.
Beautiful lies, chest thumping, delusion about one's own national identity, blatant racism won't fix the problem.
To fix it one must take a deep and thorough look at him/herself in a mirror and discover all the lies he/she had been fed with, the politico economic corruption which is depriving him/her of its wages and standard of living to the benefit of a few oligarchs, and must of all he/she must educate him/herself by seeking the truth, because when he/she will find it, it will set his/her mind free from manipulation and brainwashing by the experts in desinformation.

That's not the question generoso. The question is why the Dominican republic seems to perform wonderfully on paper, and is still facing this kind of tragedy. I can tell you that not all the rosy articles on the Dominicantoday web site will be able to do a complete comestic surgery on your country and hide its reality.
Besides, according to experts in global economy, every smaller market like your country which is dependent on foreign investments (which are not coming anymore), will be the most hard hit by the global depression.
There is no more such thing as globalization (it has been put on hold), every major economic power are defending its market like a Grizzly bears would do for its offspring. The Dominican republic must realize that it has been had by the International Bankers and the oligarch thugs that are pillaging its economy without in mind the idea to spread and share the country wealth with socio economic justice.

Oupala, our exploding demographic crisis (brought in part by you Haitian) and economic polarization is driving Dominican, Chinese, and Cuban to violate PR sovereignty. These factors are not an excuse for us to turn a blind eye to the Haitian invasion of DR either!
We all know in this thread that the current Republic has failed and is fueling the same conditions that lead to the destruction of the Maya, Somalia, Rwanda, Haiti, and others. This illegal emigration is another sign that we must level off our population to match what DR can provide without destroying it's future survival. We can't continue this course and at the same time, exporting our problems to others.
DR must reverse policies and MUST FIGHT OFF A HOSTILE NEIGHBOR WHO WANTS TO TAKE OUR RESOURCES AND DESTROY OUR ENVIRONMENT! Our weakness in this area will kill us!

“Nosotros no somos animales”

People will always migrate for better opportunities, whether it be Haitians, Zimbabweans, etc. Even Argentina sends thousands of immigrants each year to Spain & Italy in search of better opportunities. A handful of Dominicans do emigrate but most will not give up on their country so easily & thats the difference between DR & a failed state. There's still some serious work to be done, no doubt, and many proud dominicans will fight for a better DR as seen with the recent protest (exposing their govt of its wrong doings). Other countries however, cant even count on their own citizens to help lead the fight in making it a better place. These countries have already lost a good chunk of their "warriors" to emigration due to no hope that they very well may be a lost case. Thankfully DR continues to have a good chunk of honest citizens that will continue to lead the fight. It wont be easy but the tide will eventually turn and those dominicans that left will return home.

Ignore this and you are illiterate or you are a prohaitian hoping to derail the readers by defaming and discrediting those who are really focused on the sores of DR's problems!
DR has numerous problems but we must prioritize and you Haitian are the biggest one! Two million Haitian eating 30 % of DR's health budget and 70 % of the births in the five Dominican provinces along the border are from Haitian. You have 34,000 Haitian in Dominican schools (denying arm chairs and education to Dominican children). Yet you scream "SLAVERY", "Lack of human rights" because we don't give you political power! The heck with you latrine Haitian!
From: Dominican Republic
jobtlisky, emigration is permissible as long as the receiving nation agrees to receive them (the emigrants must obey the immigration laws of the receiving countries)! There is nothing wrong with that!
Leonel has said that he only cares about the stability of the macroeconomy not the microeconomy and given the 10 million people we got some that will leave violating someone elses immigration laws.
DR needs to worry that we don't have a brain drain or wealth drain of the people who are productive, creative, and can create a self-sufficient society. Given this, we must allow those people to receive and retain a large wealth and/or resources. Therefore, a certain level of economic/social polarization is needed!

I do'nt play dominoes or drink Presidente. But I do have a Job. Anyway, Dominicans taking to the high seas, ie shark infested waters to escape their various economic situations in the D.R. is a extremely dangerous task. The numerous incidents of deaths at the high seas is an example of the extreme risks which are being taken.
The U.S. is simply doing what is necessary to prevent this from occurring. There are no risk of life situation when Haitians cross freely & wit the help of Dom. Military personnel into the D.R.. There is clearly a difference. If they would have made it to shore, then I would have a different opinion about their status.

A direct outcome of unchecked population explosion and the reality of limited growth and opportunity.
BTW, population explosion is not exclusive to illegal immigration. It is also precipitated when fertile and irresponsible women willingly fall prey to men of questionable character, because they dance bachata and drive an SUV they cannot afford and display gaudy jewelry. These typically married men are generally liars and cheaters whose main interest seems to be fathering as many illegitimate children as possible.
This practice holds us down culturally, and must be stopped if we ever expect to emerge from the bottom of the pit.
How ironic that we constantly attack the Haitian illegal immigration to our country, yet perpetrate the same violations against the US everyday.
To be just and avoid being hypocrites, we should accord them the precise same sentiments we often dispense to our uninvited neighbors.

It is up to the U.S. and PR to do whatever they want to do with their illegal immigrants. Their negligence is not an excuse for us to turn a blind eye to a hostile country that has invaded us before and it is inresponsibly dumping people on DR!

Instead of crying like a little puppy dog for delusional ideas that are throwing you in a state of mind close to demantia, you better give to your government and mine some good ideas on how to track and hunt down those criminals that are profiting from the illegal immigrants trade.
A good place to start would be to begin imposing stiff fines on your agriculture and construction insdustrialists who are shamelessly profiting from this shameful and unjust trade.
However, with corruption as the number one sport in your country after baseball, I don't see how your country will ever get rid of that plague.

Can't argue with that obviously correct point of view.
My point was only concerned with increasing particiation on evolving threads by broading participation through clear understanding. I suggested it politely. Yes, Frenchie needed to be taught a lesson, let's hope next time he will be careful picking his opponents to start a fight with.
Come on you lazy bums, get off the dominos and Presidente's and do your thing!
“Nosotros no somos animales”
http://espacinsular.org/spip.php?article8262
It will boil down to the same redundant outdated haitian versus dominican b---hit !
oupala 7 versus allimineuse
Thanks God that none of you are not leaders or mediatotrs or problem solvers.
Like I said before some haitians and some Dominicans (oupala and allumineuse)they have one thing in common they eat grandules and they fart.(meaning attacking each others,
posting ignorant comments to see who farts laouder !!!

Like I said before:some Haitians and some Dominicans(oupala and allumineuse) ,they eat grandules and FART(meaning:attacking each other, posting ignorant comments to see who farts louder !!!
From: United States, Santo Domingo, D.R.
How come all the pro immigration NGO's have kept quiet and not raised a stink about this? or they just scream racism and anti-immigrant discrimination when Haitians are involved?
Come on you lazy bums, get off the dominos and Presidente's and do your thing!
I have a few advices for you: "1- Wake up. 2- take a look on your calendar and check what year and century are we living in now. 3- close the gas before you go back to sleep." For, sleeping continually with the gas tap turned on will either kill you or render you brain psychologically unstable, and most of your pitiful rethoric seems to come out someone who either spends his time smoking crack cocain or sniffing gas vapors.
A bunch of my fellow islanders are dying at sea because they are fleeing dire economic life in their own countries, and everything you find to say is a bunch of nonsense.
Why don't you put your fiery intellectuality to go after those who are plundering your country economy while denying the masses the minimum standard of living the Universal Human Rights have granted to them?
Will you wake up one day? I am pretty sure you will do, but I am afraid that you'll have to go through the back door that day and wait for your turn.
The explosion at the bottom has overcome the supply from the Dominican economy. Even if you give land and/or subsidies to the bottom (which is a suicide), they will still be poor and they will still move into the cities, protests, and illegal migrate!!! Poverty is not just lacking resources is also a poor attitude, behavior, and expectation. We don't have the resources to sustain 10 million people of which 4 million are poor! We expect social unrest and emigration!
Your socialism will not work in DR! Cuba failed. Venezuela is about to fail. The only solution is population control via dictatorship!

I wonder where have you learned geo and socio economic. I am not going to waste time with you my friend, in fact, the only idea I can suggest to you is to take a look at a tiny state like Singapore, which is smaller than my own La Gonâve island, and a population of more than 4 million inhabitants.
By its GDP, this moskito country is the 5th richest one in the whole world, and furthermore it is not as racially and ethnically homogenous as Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Now there is a dangerous and stupid idea. Wow, what an idiot.
Why don't you try to advise your government how to fix its sticking energy problem and how to set a prevention system in order to help it saving the lives of your fellow citizens the same way we are doing it back home in the West? It would be a much more useful and honourable task from you instead of a stupid hatemongering rethoric.
SIngapore, has a terrible GINI index, as bad as DR, of 52 which means huge economic polarization (a few own the wealth). The population growth is being controlled by their government of 1 child per family (growth rate of 1 % annually). It is this control that DR must have! They have terrible pollution in that island from all the pharmaceutical industry.
Kid go back to school or we can school you here!
Juanb you are responsible for 2,000 Dominican that die every year from violence. You are also responsible for all the drugs, contraband, weapons, 2 million illegals, prostitution, corruption, environmental destruction, and all the crap that the Republic of 1961 has given us. So much crap came out of your mouth that I am sure you don't live in DR. The next time you defend this crap you will take the next bullet!
You don't live in DR! When you live in DR then talk all the garbage you want about the Republic, individual freedoms, and economic freedoms! You have no idea how peaceful DR was in the 1950's. But of course you are reading Dominican history books written by Socialists!
We can't be sorbing thousands of poor, illiterate, sick, and violent people and then expect economic prosperity! We get at least 100,000 illegal alien every year. And with 4.2 million poor people, we are garanteed to be put in the dump!
allumeusegeneroso,
I wonder what do you plan to light up, you dont even have a match stick.
My friend, once again, I urge you to wake up and see the light, for you risk to find yourself all alone if you take too long to do just that, clock is ticking.
"
I agree the time is now or it will be too late
"Your socialism will not work in DR! Cuba failed. Venezuela is about to fail. The only solution is population control via dictatorship
My friend from where you come from.???
Respectfully, this is an English language forum on DR. Many of us here don't understand Spanish as well as many of you, and will miss comprehending content of your comments. I left DR as young child and, consequently, Spanish is only a far-second language to me.
There are several other forums on DR in Spanish. Perhaps Spanish commentaries should best be relegated to those.
I, for one, would be grateful if all commentaries were English, so the rest of us Spanish-challenged individuals could comprehend your contributions.
Thank you.

french is my mother tongue, get yourself an education, nice try .Tu viens ici pour chialer et quoi donc tu amenes a la table. Unlike you my friend I dominate all 4 languages fluently and I have no need for an online translator. Just my advise use these tools with caution unless you want to make a clown out of yourself.
I asked you repsectfully, but I see it was a futile effort.
By the way, your Spanish is not really that good, and I am sure it's giving many people here a chuckle. However, I commend you for trying hard and, really, keep going and I will work harder to improve my Spanish languqge skills.
It is not my site/forum and, consequently, not my decision to decide content or language. I'll leave that to the DT monitors.
BTW, I don't know if you are really French, but that is my ancestry. Grandpa was born in Luneville and Grandma in Paris. Both were children of French diplomats who also brought the French Cable to the new world. Regrettably, my French skills are as good as my Spanish, but good enough to be fully conversational and do some writing as well.
If we start restraining the right to express ourselves in any language, where will we stop my friend. Anyway, the last word belong to the moderator.
Last night watching The George Lopez special on HBO his biggest joke of the evening was "If you are worried about an illegal emigrant taking your job you must have a really shitty job". So to those of you in DR who feels those poor migrants from my country are your biggest threat to your survival I understand.
No one can stop playing dominos
you wrote: "Glom, I agree with you to certain extent, however if I would have decided to post in German it would have been my prerogative, and you may have chosen to simply ignore me.
"
Can't argue with that obviously correct point of view.
My point was only concerned with increasing particiation on evolving threads by broading participation through clear understanding. I suggested it politely. Unlike it Montreal, where French is legislated as official and only language, with significant penalties for business violators, I do not advocate sensorship-except when overt personal disrespect is involved.
I have no problems with what you advocate.
If, your Spanish is poor as you say.
How can you judge my knowledge of Spanish????
Gilles Beaulieu.Montréal.Québec.Canada.
P.S. Oui,je suis Canadien Français.
I didn't mean to be offensive with my comments about your Spanish. I just noticed that it just seems like literal translations, and sometimes it might not be as fluid as would be constructed by a person to whom Spanish is the first language, that's all.
Fact is that you probably write better than many, if not most dominicans.
You wrote: "Although I came here legally' I will not be hatin' those trying to get to the land of the free by any means necessary..."
Would you feel the same way about our neighbors/friends to the east? Would you welcome them with open arms, provide free education and medical care and shelter. Would you translate all government forms into French and have bi-lingual schools? Think about it.
You know, the fast-disappearing US middle class has a broken back and simply cannot afford additional burden-of any kind.
By the time Obama [US LF!} gets done giving the country away, providing free health care to everyone [free-my toe! Hated middle class foots the bill], we would be so broke that we couldn't afford a candy bar.
As for dominican boat people, I would feel just a tad better if so many of them were not coming to this country to commit crime. Regrettably, so many of them do.
Fact is these people invade this country to try to turn it into what they fled-how i
Have a good day.
Gilles.
And, I would not like certain person to dare to put in it their comments because that the English language is not their natural language, me want this forum to be the most knowing all over the world, because comments are interesting and it can import the language.
