Yet another blow to the precarious honor of the Dominican military.
Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Radhamés Jiménez on Sunday revealed he has in his power extradition requests from the United States, including two Army colonels, and the son of a general, ending two weeks of speculation.
A source quoted by news source listin.com.do said the general, whose name or branch couldn’t be obtained, took to his son to the U.S. authorities and hand him over in Puerto Rico, to keep the extradition request from being made public.
Jimenez declined to reveal the senior officers’ names and ranks but said the public will be provided all the details in the appropriate moment.
He revealed that each case is being evaluated and would be transacted as long as the requests are properly sustained. “I really don’t have the details but there are several extradition orders and we’re working on that and… I believe the national public opinion will have the opportunity to know the details.”
Interviewed by Cristhian Jiménez on the program Encuentro Extra, the official acknowledged that two colonels and a general’s son had been requested in extradition but again refused to reveal names and ranks.
“What you can be sure of, and the country is that if any citizen is requested in extradition who has infringed the law in any other country, if the requests are well sustained and the treaties and international agreements correspond with it, extradition will be approved, regardless who that citizen is.”

At long last: the List!
I'll bet a pequena that this is Quirino-related.
Let's see whom they give up when they get in the lockup.
BTW in " norma'l" countries, the suspects are arrested the moment the judicial is empowered of a case, to prevent "disapearrances". Here they have all the leeway in the world to travel to a non-extradition country.

This seems like a decent step, but I'd like for them to consider an actual temporary visible foreing military presence on Dominican soil to combat the growing drug problem because the longer we wait the higher the price to rid our country of this problem. It's apparent our political system doesn't have the will, the moral authority or the resources to combat much less defeat the problem. It's embarrassing that we have to send our criminals to other jurisdictions to get tried because we're apparently unable or unwilling to investigate and/or prosecute.

mannytav,
Foreign military occupation? Don't believe that to be a viable alternative in the 21st century, or at least I don't believe the people will stand for it. I understand what you mean though concerning the drug issue because it is a serious problem. Depending on the possible political repercussions, these guys will most likely be extradited to the US. Occupation, though, must never be an option since DR is a sovereign nation and deserves its peace from outside interference.

To be honest, I'd rather have a controlled visible foreign presence than a foreign underground drug presence like we have now.... or are we all of a sudden growing poppy over here???? Better to have some vicisble help with pre-determined objectives limits than where this country is headed.....it's plainly obvious our prior leadership got us into this mess and the present leadership is more interested in building modern day monuments to its administration and raising its international profile than fighting this fight.

Here we go again. The U. S. government playing big role prison industrial complex when they can't even house the worlds largest population of prisoners now. Governments across the world must stand in unison against the predatory false yankee government run by top criminals. Get out, stay out, and leave us alone. Take your &*&*% embassy with you just like Chavez told you to do. At least Evo Morales fails to become a colony of this parasite.

Undertaker, The US officials are all corrupt and have sold out americans 100%. The paved highways in america have been or are now in the process of being sold to foriegn countries like China to maintain while americans pay higher tolls to these foreign entities. The ambulances are there but you will pay for them of course. Electricity, well, I have to give you that one my friend. It is available more so in the US. That is all it has to offer and at approaching 50% tax rates. I will forgo this for civil liberties and freedoms in the DR, that were once previously enjoyed in america. And trust me you do NOT want police 24/7 on every street.

Vivacuba,
I do agree on the civil liberties issue. And no way am i saying that the US is perfect and actually far from it. But what a shame from what i see here ten years wouldnt even begin to pull this countries head out of its ass. The corruption level is beyond control. Public services (Joke) I think this whole country should have a civil uprise but they wont for the fear that they might spill their beer.
I think your comment about Chavez is what set me off. Probably 99% of that countries people given the chance would put a bullet between his eyes.
Thats funny too i was just thinking what percentage of the citizens in America would do the same for their leader right now. Hey all in fun here. Just my opinion. Dammit i just spilled my beer gotta go!

What are the charges ?
In order to avoid any more Embarrassment to our Military fork up the detail info. sooner is better then later. It's nice to hear about an Officer of the DR Military turning his own Son in to Justice how painful it must be, too me that says a lot about our Military Officers.
Action speaking louder then words.......Real Leaders Leading by example and Honoring International Law.
DR Gov. PLEASE take notice.

Beautiful saying., but action???? If DR government really do this way., I think the drug business should down, down a lot......., yet., the fact is """NO""

The DR is walking a tight rope right now. Without justifying or vilifying my homelands actions in the past we all know that Panama " Just Cause" was invaded on the justification of drugs. So the DR will throw enough bones to say we are doing what we can. But will they actually throw the top dogs?
