Figueroa had an ID reportedly issued by the DNI. Its director Ramon Aquino has yet to issue a statement.
SANTO DOMINGO.- National District prosecutor Alejandro Moscoso said on Monday that some authority protects the Puerto Rican fugitive Jose Figueroa Agosto, alias Cristian Almonte, for which the investigation has expanded to determine whom.
“A person who would’ve stayed in the country for six or seven years, behaing in the manner in which Figueroa did, was undoubtedly protected,” the prosecutor told reporters outside his office.
He said the investigation advances and that people have been identified as implicated in the confiscation of 4.6 million dollars, found by the authorities in an armored SUV in the parking spaces of two luxury condos in the sector La Esperilla last week.
Moscoso discarded that Figueroa had an operations center in La Romana (east), to launder money from drug trafficking.

Hopefully the US will find this guy

This is rather simple. You have a country full of the most corrupt officials on the planet who can be bought for next to nothing. How do you expect a person who has large funds available to them through drug dealing to ever be caught when anyone who finds him will be paid to say they didn't see him.
Work on fixing the corruption problem and this wouldn't be an issue. Start doing sting operations like they do in the US to find all the corrupt officials and prosecute and send them all to jail. Have stiff sentences for anyone in a position of authority who is caught taking a bribe.
Less talk more action.

Now this is interesting and somewhat possibly related:
Speculating re the US ambassador
Writing in Saturday's Hoy newspaper, opinion columnist Fabio Herrera-Minino speculated about possible reasons for the delay in the arrival of a new US ambassador to the DR. The reasons he listed included supposed involvement in drug trafficking by high-ranking government and military figures. He comments that the government officials in question have luxury residences and a level of spending that their monthly wages cannot account for. This is combined with the Dominican government's resistance to applying measures aimed at cleaning up its reputation, giving the impression that it does not care whether its government officials are engaged in illegal activities.
Another reason could be the Fernandez administration's wholehearted support for the Venezuelan government.

This is reflected in the increasing level of dependence on Venezuela with the sale of 49% of shares in the Dominican petroleum refinery, Refidomsa to the Venezuelan state-owned oil company PDVSA, enabling Venezuela to manipulate Dominican policy even further at a time when tensions between the US and Venezuela are increasing.
Active lobbying by former US ambassadors who subsequently move on to represent US companies and have unlimited access to the powers that be in DR politics and business could also be a factor. He goes on to claim that these "quickie diplomats" have become part of the inner circles of Dominican society and its exclusive entertainment zones.
Lastly, he speculates that it could be the government's laissez faire approach and lack of responsibility in fattening its consular and foreign missions in several US cities in a way that makes it impossible for the US Department of State to grant the privileges that come with the posts.

He can't blame Bush forever and Obama is bankrupt the U.S. and his socialist policies. His approval ratings is now 41% down from high 70's. When Richard Nixon was impeached, his approval ratings were 42% so what does that say for Obama???? Did you see the 2 million people marching at Capitol Hill last week?? People including me are fed up and sick and tired of all the taxing. My house dropped $40,000 in appraised value from last year but my taxes went up $600 more and his health plan is another winner!! Where is the money and who is going to pay for it??? He says the federal deficit will not go up-How, even a kindergarden could figure that out-do the numbers? I'm not a Democrate or Rep. but this guy is a joke "a rock star"!! Bring on Mitt Romney or Bob Corker "real business men" fast before the great sinking ship sinks!!!

Explaining to a prositute how to get a loan and tax breaks in 3 different Acorn office and this is a group Obama supports. What a joke the states has become and now he is starting a trade war with China "the only country who and can buy U.S. debt" Real smart idiot Obama, piss off the people who owns America and buys all our treasuries-debt!! And let's not even talk about closing Guantanamo Base. Yea Obama, where we going to put all these terrorists who wants to kill every American including one who cut off the head of Daniel Pearl on national T.V.??? He has already sent some terrorists to Bermuda and 1 to Portugal. Where are the rest going? Dominican Republic??? Hope not, Leonel don't take Obama's trash!!! Obama says economy getting better???Where not in Miami, Florida!! People killing and robbing here left and right for $$$$ desperate!!
