Santo Domingo.- Although the United States Embassy prefers to neither confirm, nor deny specific extradition  requests military officers, the Dominican President has been the first surprised with the information.

In a terse statement U.S. Embassy spokesman David Searby said the diplomatic delegation “prefers to neither confirm nor deny, nor publicly comment on the specific extradition requests or speak on the number of existing requests, since these topics are linked to open judicial processes.”

He added that his country’s government requests the extradition of people through the diplomatic channels corresponding to the government of the country “where it’s believed the extraditable people are.”

Whereas the Presidency’s Chief of staff Cesar Pina said president Leonel Fernandez was the first to be surprised with the Justice Minister’s statement that military officers are sought in extradition, and that Radhamés Jimenez himself should provide the that details.

Jimenez, when disclosing the information last weekend, refused to reveal the officers’ names and ranks, which he said are wanted in the U.S., but noted that the public will know all the details at the proper moment.

Pina affirmed that he as well as the President, doesn’t know the details of the information released by Jimenez. “First of all I’ve been surprised with that news and the information I have is that it also surprised the President himself, so it’s to the Prosecutor to explain the request.”
