Santo Domingo.– The U.S. Coast Guard recognized 18 Dominican Republic Navy officials Friday, who completed the Coast Guard Advanced Maritime Law Enforcement Boarding Officer Course, during a ceremony at the 27 February Naval Base in Santo Domingo.
“It was a pleasure to work with such a fine group of Dominican military officials,” said Lt. j.g. Antonio Brino, Coast Guard Mobile Training team leader. “This particular group of students was very enthusiastic about the course. Over the last two weeks, they have learned the foundational principles of a maritime law enforcement official, at the same time we learned from their experiences.”
“This advanced boarding team training conducted by U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement instructors from Yorktown, Va., directly contributes to the counterdrug mission and helps to strengthen U.S. and Dominican Republic bilateral relations,” said Lt. Cmdr. Derek Cromwell, Coast Guard Liaison to the Dominican Republic.
During the two-week course, Dominican Navy boarding team members received classroom instruction and numerous practical exercises to help them conduct normal to high-risk security boardings at sea.
