SANTO DOMINGO.- Non-Catholic religious marriages will have also have a civil character in the terms established by Law, without jeopardizing international treaties specifically the Concordat between Dominican and Vatican states.

The Constitution Revisory Assembly members yesterday approved the text after reconsidering the proposal, which had been rejected in first roll call, and after accepting the report by the Verification and Audit Commission.

The legislation is a victory for the country's Protestant churches, which argued that in the aspect of matrimony, the State cannot favor one denomination over another.

The Assembly also approved personal and patrimonial rights and duties of the informal relations or "concubine" unions and that “the singular and stable union between a man and a woman, free of the impediment of marriage, which in essence forms a household, generates rights and duties in its personal and patrimonial relations, in adherence to the law."

I think that it is a victory for common sense ,,not many free countries do not recognise a marriage that has been consecrated in an Escopalian , Orthodox or Methodist church or in a Jewish synagogue ..just to mention a few

" without jeopardizing international treaties specifically the Concordat between Dominican and Vatican states. "

Why is the Dominican state, in 2009, still honoring a treaty made by a bloody dictator with one of his facilitators more than half a century later? Dios mio que cretinaje.

Not that I favor the Catholics, but at least their ministers of cult have a long academic formation and are, I think, trustworthy enough to do paperwork with official value (birth, marriage, death certificates and the like).

Since any motocoño can decide tomorrow he is a pastor and can invent his own church, which is certainly more profitable than motocoñoing, he now will have the fringe benefit of issuing documents of official value. So now, maybe his wife was a daughter of the late Don Eduardo Leon.

Catching my drift?

WalterPolo, if only you had chosen to restrain yourself from such disdaining words, your point would've had that much more credit and weight.

I agree with you wholeheartedly in that allowing a third-grader to issue official government documentation can have some very undesireable consequences.
