SANTO DOMINGO. - The Transport Reform Office (OPRET) clarified that the Santo Domingo Metro service was halted when a 169,000 KV substation supplied by one of the train’s power plants failed after an emergency unit came on line, but the low voltage caused a breaker to trip.
OPRET assistant director Leonel Carrasco, who apologized to commuters for the inconvenience, said the suspension lasted only 37 minutes, during which its technicians allowed the current to dissipate.
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded on Friday, when subway service was suspended from 7 to 7:39 a.m., when operations resumed.
