SANTO DOMINGO.- The wave of dismissals began by the new head of the State-owned Electrical Companies (CDEEE) has crested across Winston Churchill avenue to the National Lottery, as a "steam roller" has claimed the jobs of almost 2,000 employees since both officials took their posts, as outrage over nepotism in government agencies expands.

The Lottery’s new administrator Enrique Martinez has handed pink slips to 800 people, 615 of them Betting Parlor Supervisors, whereas the remaining 185 are mid and lower level posts.

A source quoted by news source diariolibre.com said most of those fired in the Lottery belong to the BISD party headed by the former administrator Jose Francisco Peña Guaba, who has been allied to the PLD party during the last three elections.

Other employees who arrived at the Lottery with Peña Guaba expect to get their “walking papers” in the next few hours.

The dismissals come in the wake of the population’s generalized outrage over nepotism by government officiaagenciesls, despite article that article 102 of the Constitution stipulates penalties for those who practice it.

Law 41-08 on Public Function also prohibits "serving in the same institution with their spouse and those linked by consanguinity or affinity until the second degree inclusively."

It looks as though we are going to see less Jipetas on the streets of the Dominican Republic. Keep the ball rolling. Trim all the fat and let's make the Dominican Republic a better country.

at the end of the day, Democracy is a fairly new device. The US is the best show of democracy that has ever been displayed & they are NOT perfect. Democracy, as a modern instrument of exportation, has only been distributed into the public sphere after WW2. These 3rd world nations, some of which only had clean elections the other day, are evolving not because they want to or because it is part of the way their government works but because it is the process of liberalization. In the fiefdoms of europe the people did'nt dare speak 1 word against the lords, which is not the case today. DR became a free country only after balaguer was defeated. Oh yes it was free. Hahaha. ON PAPER but never in reality. To expect a country, that not long ago had one of the biggest bank frauds in history from its previous administration, to change in a matter of minutes is childish at best. The firings of these officials is an evolving process made mandatory by the public and imperative by democracy

Pena Guaba is the biggest scum bag in the country. Boy, what a legacy his father left the country. He should be thrown in jail and left there to rot, heck he's so fat they wont even have to feed him for years. I hope this steam roller goes all the way through the palacio and maybe then we will have faith in our country again. Then again Im such an optimist....

I project that there would soon be some fantastic deals on slightly used and fancy "yipetas".
