SANTO DOMINGO.- Puerto Rican drug trafficker Jose Figueroa Agosto may have fled the country on a speedboat to an island of the Lesser Antilles, from where he traveled to Europe together with his daughter.
American agents have joined the pursuit of Figueroa and two gunmen who arrived in the country were reportedly contracted to attack those who they feel collaborated to tip off the authorities on the Puerto Rican’s whereabouts.
Sources close to the case quoted by news source eldia.com.do say Figueroa escaped using a boat which set sail from the country’s East.
The National District Office of the Prosecutor affirms other Dominicans, in addition to Figueroa’s alleged paramour Sobeida Felix Morel, are part of the fugitive’s organization, and that it has seized 15 more properties across the country, including the “zoo” found in a farm 15 kilometers north of Santo Domingo, whose animals were sent to the National Zoological Park.

Here is more proof that no matter what you do if you have money you can pay your way out. Our corrupt officials have once again failed us and let a serious criminal slip away from justice.Until the corruption problems are taken more seriously we live in a land of lawlessness and crime.

It said that he escaped in a speedboat and I think that is relatively easy and I am sure Punta CanaMike can advise better,,he was never caught in this country but it is alleged he had numerous identities , some of which were issued with the authority of (if I remember correctly) the anti corruption authority. he lived for a period in la Romana but seems as if he had various bases ..
Is there any evidence to suggest corruption here or is he just a clever man using the Domincan casualness to his advantage ??

Just another "slap in the face" for the Dominican Coast Guard who supposedly guards our coastal waters to prevent drug trafficking if it's true! Damn right he was protected by high authorities here who are on his payroll and I hope they catch these S.O.B.'s soon! This was a well planned escape that needed the help of Dominican autorities - WAKE UP LEONEL!!!!!

If you have money in the DR you can do anything, and get away with anything. People don't act surprised, we all know this is how it works. This goes from the top down. All the politicians care about is how much they can steal till they are out of office. We have a constitution no one respects. There are no due process, no principals, it is just a jungle. We need to revive Trujillo and pair him up with Fidel Castro, so he can lockup all these crooked politicians from Leonel on.

If he went to Europe, he will be caught and extradited. He better go to a country such as the middle east. The only crook who went to europe and still hasn't been caught is the former mob hitman Whitey. They still haven't caught him and America's Most Wanted and been putting him on their show for years now.

Ricardolito this man has some of our corrupt officials in his pocket. It is not so easy to take a boat and leave the island and go anyplace without people noticing. The article even gives clue to where he went though I do not believe it. If he left corrupt officials helped him. My intuition says corrupt officials are helping hide him on the island for a while and making it look like he left.

Firstly...you do not "set sail" in a speedboat...but then again, anything seems to be possible in this country! LOL
The only place that you would find a high capacity speedboat on this side of the island in in the Cap Cana area. Funny they don't say where in the east the boat was from.

No wonder Puerto Rico claims a 90% white population, because mulattos, as this guys surely is, is considered (zoom into the picture) "white" LOL.. .I guess the DR at least stays true to its race numbers.
