I agree. DR should return the favor and start investing in business within those areas as well. Our culture has a lot to offer those countries. Dominican Food is enjoyed by many different cultures in NYC. The funny thing is that just yesterday alone I was chatting with some russian girls who were buying some pollo al carbon con arroz y habichuelas and they were ecstatic. With that said, there are numerous business sectors that could be infiltrated in these countries. Some need help in different areas like agriculture and telecommunications services. Some are not as good of trading partners as others but the efficiency of the chinese model has shown us the beauties of trades. The chinese trade with everyone who is anyone and yet they are communist. They have a net exporter economy and build products mainly for the rest of the world (the US being the biggest partner). Our country is not as rich as we'd like it to be in terms of natural resources, but the little it has is good.

DR should begin to look at certain areas that will help it in the future. Primarily, becoming self sufficient in agriculture in order to fight the commodities problem that is to come in the near future due to overpopulation and not enough supply in the Food industry (but demand is creeping higher and higher). Next, they should strive to be energy independent by producing the majority of their fuel domestically through renewable sources. Also, they should try the best with their abilities to invest in the people and education while also investing in the manufacturing sector. This last one will allow for them to build products at home and export them for trade abroad. Simple terms but very difficult to execute. However, Leonel (as bad a some say) has done some things that are gearing towards this like his strategy of not taxing the renewable industry for 10 years and also appealing to the emotions of foreign countries through the cloak of trade for investments.

I'm not after your women!!! I don't do women! All I can say on that part of your comment is - look after your women better!! I have yet to find a job that would at least pay the transport costs to get to work and home again. My life savings are depleted whilst trying to find a 'paid' job. The Russians are here to 'invest' and 'develop', to enlist your 'underworld' into their mafia circle - think about it!

I agree with Camano, Bleu. They come here for sex, sex, and more sex. and to take our resources. Now i'm not saying that all them do, but many do! Not to mention to belittle us beacause they got more moola!, they see that many get away with breaking the law, and I wont be surprised they follow suit. And then they say how Horrendous this socierty or these people are. If so, then Y move there in the 1st place??? OH, i alreday answered that.!

Rumours that more Russian planes are landing full of tourists. A local hotel had a show of Russian dancers performing Turkish Dance. Many people come to DR to start businesses and are very successful - I'm sure this will be ever more true of the Russians also.
DR is getting a wonderful cosmopolitan feel and and sure to become a focus of growth. There are many jobs in tourism and significant export sectors. Of course there are non-stop flights to Russia from the DR and the DR could become an important air transit sector for the Russians - avoiding visa problems of the US. Russia has huge resources , gold, oil etc. so although joint ventures may be possible I wouil doubt that it is resources they are after.
