Santo Domingo. - Dominican Republic’s authorities Wednesday announced the arrest of the Haitian Amaral Ducloná, 31, one of his country’s most wanted and sought in extradition by France for the death of a French diplomat.
Ducloná, leader of armed gangs in Port au Prince, was detained last night by the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) when he was leaving a housing complex in La Romana (east), the antinarcotics entity said in a statement.
The fugitive, who went by the name Julicoeur Berthone in Dominican Republic, is linked to several crimes in Haiti, some of them against the United Nations peacekeepers in the Caribbean nation (Minustah), a source quoted by local media said.
DNCD said the Haitian’s organization operates in the ghetto Soleil, in the country’s capital, and that France wants Ducloná to face charges of kidnapping and murder of an honorary consul in Cape Haitien.
