PEDERNALES, Dominican Republic.- The Armed Forces Ministry has installed a Humanitarian Aid Distribution Command Post for Haiti, to expedite the transfer of supplies and donations from Pedernales (southwest) to Jacmel, in Haiti’s western peninsula.

Navy boats including the patrols Tortuguero and Capotillo, the cutters Bellatrix, Canopus and Orion, in addition to several speedboats will operate from the port at Rojo Cabo to Jacmel, with a capacity to ferry more than 300 tons of supplies.

The vessels arrived in that community with 35 tons of supplies early Monday, whereas a military convoy including an ambulance and medicines to attend those affected was sent by land.

Moreover South Region Commander Aquilino Maria Melo coordinates the transfer of humanitarian aid by naval craft to Barahona and from there by land to Jimaní, site of the Storage Center.
