Santo Domingo.- Haiti´s catastrophe from the major quake has led to no vacancies in practically all of Santo Domingo´s hotels and in some cases some of the capital´s large ones recommend booking in other smaller ones.
A survey found that the capital´s main hotels at more than 90% occupancy, much higher than the 60% average for this time of the year.
Yesterday Thursday the hotel Meliá Santo Domingo´s occupancy was 90%, the Jaragua Renaissance was at 97%, whereas the Embajador was at 99%. Since last week the Sofitel Nicolas de Ovando had an occupancy rate of from 90% to 98%.
The disastrous situation in Haiti is behind the arrival of so many visitors to the Dominican capital´s hotels, as rescuers, international aid groups and people who’ve come to stay with their relatives in Port-au-Prince and other cities have reserved all the rooms.

To all who want to take off their ignorance blinders,who wish to have a greater understanding of the future of Haiti after this tragic event. My sugestion to you is to look up the thesis put foward by the think tank The Heritage foundation on January 13th in regards to this matter. If you understand who those guys are,you will understand what is to come.

Foresee a good economic year for the DR as a result of this disaster in Haiti. It appears as though everyone who is helping Haiti from abroad is staying in a hotel in greater SD, thus driving daily into Haiti to "work." I think that's good, but do not like how it came to be.
