Santo Domingo.- The United States Government yesterday acknowledged Dominican Republic’s right to protect its border with Haiti to prevent a massive influx of undocumented citizens from that country into Dominican territory.

U.S. embassy press attaché David Searby affirmed that his country doesn’t have a geopolitical interest in controlling Haiti’s ports, but instead to prevent a migratory chaos towards Dominican Republic and his nation.

Searby said the U.S. Government is aware of the fundamental role Dominican Republic has played in the humanitarian effort for Haiti, after the devastating earthquake. “Dominican Republic has the right to protect its borders and in the United States we also have laws which confront illegal migration towards the United States.”

The diplomat, interviewed by the RNN network, said as a resident in the country he has seen the solidarity and the abundant aid which has left Dominican Republic from official agencies and citizens. “A person who resides in this country, who sees the emotion with which Dominicans speak about helping Haiti, cannot doubt that this country is strongly committed to helping Haiti.”

Well I am not sure what all those comments in Spanish were about?

However I have been in the DR and Haiti over the last 10 days and am now back in Port au Prince.

The Dominican Government has been very gracious in its efforts in assisting Haiti in this time of desperate need and I am especially proud of the manner in which the Dominican people have expressed the condolences and have assisted in so many ways.

Surely the conspiracy theories can wait. If you see the devastation and pain that has been inflicted upon Port au Prince and its population then I am sure you would pause the conspiracy theory discussions for a few more weeks out of respect for the magnitude of this disaster. My hat is off to the Dominican Nation - Well done and please keep up the support .

It's good to see the US recognizing DR's efforts for haiti, I think is about time the world pays more attention the Island of Hispaniola. Leonel Fernandez, aswell as Hipolito Mejia, both were up to here telling the world Haiti needed attention, nobody said or did anything. Now the world is seing things the way it deserves to be seen.

I've seen a lot of Haitians expressing their gratitude towards the DR, this tragedy has constituted a milestone in DR/Hati relationships.

Even the more daring anti-dominicans like Sonie Pierre had to shut their mouth and recognize Dominicans are kind and loving people.

VivaCuba once again with a show of how truly ignorant he is. Why don't you tell us all what the US has to gain by taking over Haiti? Increased debt? No natural resources to speak of. A few million poor hungry people to support?

Some peopele need to use their head for more than holding their hat on.

Inter,

Sonia is a dirty rat, that is making a lot of money with an NGO, which by the way is an ILEGAR ALIEN in D.R. The JCE proved that her parent came to D.R. ilegally, therefore she is not a D.R. citizen, but she's been crying around the world that we are the worse there is in this planet, and our government has not deported her to avoid a P.R. crisis with the international community, but also, LA FALTA DE PANTALONES has more to do with it; NOW SHE'S NOT WHERE TO BE FOUND, she should be in haiti helping her real country. I don't give rat ass to be label in this forum, the way we are as a nation is our fault, because of bad Dominican that care about nothing but themselves, starting with the last 5 presidents that will never even match a J.P.D. fingernail if you put them all together.
Trujillo did more for our country than all of them, and you know that guy was bad.

However , the dust is starting to settle my friend and the ether is wearing off . Yes, the great fued between the Hatfields and the McCoys has taken a sabatical, but the sugar cane and the peace pipes are burning fast and when it comes time for Pedro to decide if his baby sucks juice from the pineapple before Jean Renes baby, the torches and the machettis will be painting the skies .. As if nobody saw this coming from the corner of thier eyes , with the exception of the Dominican Dominicans that are eating the fruit of this misery that is going to be falling from the trees in abudance during the months and years to come while thier American counterparts are getting another shot of botox at the starbucks this morning with thier conquering hero of a President that now has 1 minute 45 seconds of fame left on the clock . Perhaps Leo may find asylum in Georgia when he finds out that the Hondurans dont want him either .

BTW, where is that Nero guy, you know the one who proposed the annulment of the Dominican state in benefit of a Haitian empire, the one who proposed Dominicans to have their days numbered because he will lead a revolution that would put an end to Dominican rule on this side of the island.

Ect ect...

I haven't seen his since... never mind.

A LESSON TO BE LEARNED:

Good to see the Dominican Republic doing there share to help the Haitian people. I was very surprise considering the ugly history between both countries. There are many interacial marriages of Haitian and Dominican that live in Santo Domingo, tho this is never talked about by Dominicans.

Also many of the large builings in the Dominican Republic are built by Haitian Labors because some of the Dominican people (not all)are too lazy or they don't want to get their hands dirty.

Dominican Republic should relize this is a wake-up call from the Lord and, that they sould treat people the way they won't to be treated. In the coming future they may need the Haitian People to help them if there is ever another Earth Quake, this time in D.R. after all both Haiti and D.R. share the same "Fault Line" and there are also lots of poorly built home/houses in D.R. and a large population of people.

I have NEVER used another name!

Some of those names are ascribed to me by as feeble attempts by people who love freedom of speech until someone practices it and posts a different opinion than theirs. So since they can not refute the message they attack the messenger.

It’s the olds trick in the book, next to politicians lying, so my friend don’t fall for either!
