Jimaní, Dominican Republic.- The Dominican Government will build a 12 kilometer span of highway in Haitian territory, from Jimaní to Fond Paraise, on the road to Port-au-Prince, Treasury minister Vicente Bengoa announced yesterday.

The official also said the Dominican and Haitian authorities agreed that all the aid headed to Haiti from anywhere in the world will have to enter via Dominican Republic. “That’s because the Haitian ports and airports are destroyed.”

Bengoa said the road span will be across the mountains, since the current route was heavily damaged by the flooding of Azuei Lake. He said the Government will conduct the studies to start the construction shortly, but didn’t specify the cost.

Bengoa spoke after meeting in the military base in Jimaní with Haiti par Jan Jan Valentin; the directors of Dominican Customs Rafael Camilo, of Immigration Sigfrido Pard and other officials from both nations.

He also affirmed that the Government has spent more than 20 million dollars in humanitarian aid for Haitians.

As if Haiti hasn't been hit by enough disasters, now they will have to deal with Dominican-built roads and electric service! Perhaps they really did make a pact with the devil, after all, for I just couldn't understand why so many bad things are coming their way.

Inevitably, some of my fellow Dominicans will take exception to my comments above and even label me a traitor, and that's their prerogative. However, look at our roads and electrical network and service. Seriously, do you still think I am wrong? I doubt it. Really, really I doubt it.

MJEV.

You have been condemned (to be shot in your left big toe, by a BB gun) for making offensive remarks about the DR roads, and power grid system. Repent! I urge you.
Dominicans will rise to the occasion and build a great highway and "tropicalized" electrical system, with all our experience.
