SANTO DOMINGO. - The Dominican Presidency’s Adviser on Narcotics today Tuesday questioned what he called Washington’s indifference in the case of the Puerto Rican fugitive Jose Figueroa Agosto.
Marino Vinicio (Vincho) Castillo had several times criticized the U.S.’ position regarding the country’s war on drugs, citing that country’s reluctance to supply technology in the effort and for not providing enough funds to halt the traffic of narcotics, most of which ends up in American streets.
He also affirmed that “an ambassador” he didn’t name had collaborated with Figueroa’s activities in his country and locally.
Castillo, speaking in the National Palace also said the narcotics trafficker is a fugitive of “his structures of complicity in the Dominican Republic” and affirms has shored up his impunity within the Government, “beyond the generals.”
The official, whose office is in the National Palace and also heads the Presidency’s Ethics Commission, said that he learned that while in Dominican Republic, Figueroa traveled to Puerto Rico for his mother’s funeral, even after he escaped from a jail there while serving a more than a 100 year prison sentence.
“I believe that if there’s someone who can undergo compulsion at a given time and think that he’s in danger, it’s Figueroa because the day in which his complicity structure here understands that he poses a threat, it can dispose of him,” Castillo said.
He said Figueroa apart from being a fugitive “doesn’t have the power he had a year ago, adding that the United States authorities, “above all” after the change Administration in Washington, could be interested in Figueroa informing them on his operations and local links.

I am quickly losing faith in Vincho.
Is he somehow implying that it was the US' responsibility to watch him in DR while he freely traded in drugs, laundered money with the covert backing of Dominican authorities?
Is he not aware of the various pistol-carrying permits granted to him by the overtly corrupt and incompetent Dominican authorities?
This man's ability to operate in DR with absolute impunity could not have gone on without the protection of high-ranking government, military and judicial operatives. Just look at the release of his girlfriend, Sobeida Feliz, and the lame reasons, excuses provided by that incompetent and corrupt judge-who should be remanded to La Victoria in her place and disbarred and publicly flogged.
Many of us are very patriotic and clearly love the mother land; however, we are quickly becoming the laughingstock of the region, in terms of ineptness and corruption.
Some total cleansing should be in order and soon.

How could any DR official, in his right mind, given the pervasive state of corruption, where no one and nothing could be trusted expect the US government to give them more weapons and drug interdiction equipment?
For what, so the drug runners could be better informed, protected?
Are you kidding us?
Vincho, why don't you admit yours and the government you represent ineptness and corruption and just resign? Maybe then we could have just a little more respect for you.
You have failed us and embarrassed us beyond belief, and it should take a generation or more to recover from this damage.
Hope none of you is hoping for a continued political career; however, given your vote-buying prowess and Dominican gullibility, I would not be totally shocked if you were to prevail, assure the continuity of your inept and corrupt style of government.

You must read today's DR1. It recap of the Agosto case, including all the drug agency, army, and governmental employees involved is almost unbelievable. There is just too much to copy and paste, but here is just a bit:
Police Officer Miguel Sanchez Diaz, head of Operations of the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) and head of La Romana airport, Army Colonel Manuel Diaz Medina are under investigation.
El Dia reports that Ramon Antonio del Rosario Puente (Tono Lena) posed a major challenge for Dominican anti-narcotics agents. Despite agents having managed to put together cases and prosecuted him on 5 occasions, he was able to secure his release due to the "benevolence of the judges in the east", even when he was arrested in possession of 10 kilos of cocaine. (kind of puts a hole in the "honest judge" story in today's DT)
El Dia reports that Rosario Puente had former Air Force colonel Jorge Luis Pena Segura at his service, who was arrested in October 2008 while receiving 95

Gringo I have to agree that this statement is almost beyond belief and I was wondering what was lost in the translation ,..based on this statement ,it is about time that the President found a new adviser ...and I agree that the statement from the chief judge was on the same level as this one .

Lets focus on this drug problems and forget about his two positions in the National Palace, better yet assigned as overseer of this hemisphere war on drugs. On other matter the DNCD should turned to cigarrettes and how many people are dying cause of it --- THATS A REAL DRUG --. The day that Sandro die one of the doctors interview in Argentina, said that on that day 139 people had die cause of cigarrette smoking. Thats only in Argentina. What D.R. is doing is propagandizing the drug scene by constantly reporting anything thats drug related. Instead of focusing on the creations of jobs. The message they are sending is that this is the fasted way to make a buck instead of just standing on a corner or playing dominos. The consequences is a high price but you won't suffer any deases unless you become an addict. In comparrison to liquor and cigarrete the greater death which comes about through drugs are created by the war on drugs and not by the drugs itself and an overdose is a minority.

the people being arrested like ivano is just a scapegoat . everyone in the dr has a gun and everyone in the dr has an id that says they are police, military or dni. find out who killed gonzalez and stop waisting time with the kids making money from the drug dealer.those kids are just triing to make a few bucks. the real crime here is the murder of gonzalez. who did it . we know ivano didnt have anything to do with it. theres something wrong here. arrest some uniforms. that would really show us that progress is here. im watching this and i dont like it. this guy looks too stupid to know anything. and too much talk and no real results. open up a police line that lets people call in and contribute to this investigation. i believe that this would help. advertise it and you will get the answers you need. these people cant keep there mouths shut. i wish i was working this case. but im american. STOP LOOKING WHERE THE MONEY WENT AND START LOOKING WHERE THE MONEY CAME FROM. GOD BLESS AMERICA

Dear Public
This gentleman is just talking. The truth is that Agosto is the man the USA and homeland need to stop the corruption in this country. What is happening is that the USA is going to get Agosto and get to the bottom of all the corruption and put him under witness protection plan, because hes more important to them against the corruption in law enforcement than he is as criminal. I personally think the authorities good and bad are both looking for him and i think the bad will find him and kill him. I think the USA has to look at this with great importance and get Agosto and all the people involved out of here so they can feel safe because they dont know who the good guy are . This is a third world country with hunger for money and lots of corruption in all levels. The only sure thing here is that the President is an honest man , incapable of having any involvement in this matter. The key here is Gonzalez. Who in Romana was his commanding officer? Look at lifestyles and income.

Josean, I dont know or care about the clowns who run this country, i only care about the people who have to deal with the corruption. The opportunity has arrived to clean it up. There is a lot of corruption here and if you as a business man knows that the money you are receiving comes from ilegal activity then you should punished like the criminal you dealing with. We are not all angels but there is a limit on how far we will go or should go. I only sat that the government here all pays with 20 dollar bills and the money isnt clean. That doesnt make the person with the money dirty but its grey, big difference from black. The president has another issue to deal with, that issue will come very soon when someone close to him gets arrested by the USA and he has to answer if he had knowledge of the situation and his response will be looked at very carefully since the one of the parties involved works for STate department and cannot be used as a scapegoat.
