Santo Domingo. - The Immigration Agency today said it dismantled a network in the Las Americas International Airport which trafficked with undocumented persons by air using internal flights, which were diverted to other Caribbean islands.

It said it investigates the pilot Ryan Kite of the U.S. registry aircraft N65NY, aboard which five travelers would be flown to Punta Cana as a domestic flight, and from there illegally to the island of Saint Thomas, to later reach Puerto Rico.

Among thjose detained are Wilfredo Concepción Rosario, Aracelis Santos de la Cruz, Alba Iris Pérez Sánchez, Vicente Rondón Hernández and Bernardo Taveras Frías, who contradicted each other when interrogated, and admitted having paid between 5,000 and 7,000 dollars

Immigration said since it was a local trip, the suspects didn’t have to present documents, and an employee, identified as Elizabeth Santana, had an I.D. card of the airports management company Aerodom, allowing her access to the small plane.

Santana, an employee of the airline Caribair, said she had received the five passengers she had escorted to the restricted area after the pilot Kite, who’s a client of the company, requested check-in and boarding services for those he would fly to Punta Cana in a domestic flight.

How do 15 people get off a plane from another country, only 10 get back on to go back to another country and nobody at the airport notices? TSA must've been too busy patting down legitimate passengers to notice.

the smuggling of humans has been a priority for the authorities of the USA and the DR but is very hard to defeat as both the smugglers and their victims are trying to keep away from the officials .Always there has to be a bent official whether here or in Indonesia,Australia or Canada or other popular destinations ..in Australia ,for example it is estimated that there are more than 5%or more than 1 million people illegally staying in that country ..many without even an entry visa ...it is a horrible trade but difficult to beta as so many people are moving to more wealthy or safer countries.

I have a friend who used these services several times to travel to USVI and Tortola. He would travel undisturbed by the authorities. Did you guys hear abour Joan Rivers ordeal in CR when an airline employee thought that her names were suspicious and left her stranded there with no money???

as you know the people smugglers use all means of transport and there are so many deaths in Europe as poor people are transported in containers without sufficient air or water or sanitation ,,it is almost first class travel here .

I believe the biggest scam now is in Sri Lanka where the human smugglers are asking more than $80,000 for a trip just to the Malay peninsular
