Santo Domingo.- The United States Government has requested the extradition of the notorious Manuel Emilio Mesa Beltré (El Gringo), on drug trafficking charges, said Supreme Court (SCJ) Penal Chamber president Hugo Alvarez Valencia Thursday morning.
He said the request will be addressed next week together with others whose names he didn’t specify.
Agents arrested Mesa in the capital’s Villa Maria sector while in a BMW SUV, and seized RD$4.3 million, which the authorities say is product of his vast drug sales in poor barrios.
Alvarez said the requests would be processed regardless of the defendants’ “caliber” and warned that the Justices won’t bow to pressure neither from drug trafficking nor society in general, in that or other cases.
The judicial official spoke prior to joining a mass to mark the Day of the Judicial Branch, officiated in the church La Paz.
