NEW YORK.- Dozens of Dominican passengers aboard Delta Airlines flight 494 heading to John F. Kennedy Airport from the Las Americas International Airport on Thursday were scared out of their wits, when shortly before landing in New York the plane had to be detoured to Providence, Rhode Island.

The passengers had to withstand the rumors ranging from mechanical failure to a possible terrorist threat.

Newspaper Nuevo Diario reporter Miguel Cruz Tejada was among the passengers, who said the plane left Santo Domingo with more than 40 minutes delay. He said jet finally took off from Rhode Island after five hours and headed back to New York.

Possible it had to be either a busy JFK airspace or not favorable whether condition for approaching.

Thursday in New York where I live, the remnants of the tropical storm passing through hit with high winds and buckets of rain.
In Boston yesterday, nowhere as bad.
And this is big news that a jet is re-routed?

This article fails journalism 101 because it is crying for the content to have information of the cause of the detour to Rhode Island. It would be a minimum requirement of the reporting agency to make inquiries of Delta and authorities and state if there was a response of any type.

LOL...I thought they were going to say that immigration efforts had been stepped up at JFK and an additional immigration check was to be performed for all arriving Dominicans. That would definitely scare all those going to the US on shoddy papers!

Plus...wouldn't the bigger scare be driving to the airport? Bikes and cars going the wrong way...unsecured loads teetering on derelict trucks.

Let's get the story right.
1. there was a tornado watch in New York,
2. the plane when to Philadelphia not Rhode Island.
3. the plane was 5 hour late to JFK.
4. the people on the plane were not in no danger.
5. It was not Delta fault.
6. Yes they were only given crackers and peanut the whole time on plane.

I know all this because I was onh that flight.
