Santo Domingo.- Electrical Fraud prosecutor Moisés Ferrer yesterday confirmed the theft of electric meters and revealed that among the cases is a company and three people who’ve been charged with the new type of crime.

He said companies linked to the electrical sector, specifically the energy distributors’ contractors, have been caught in what he called a most serious fraud.

Ferrer said an investigation uncovered that after the robbery the meters’ screen were swapped with those of other houses, businesses or companies, to alter the measurement.

The official affirmed that a company charged, which he didn’t identify, had been contracted by the distributor Edesur and later fired, but its former workers continued the illegal practice.  “The investigation determined an important data, that if there are no links with people who work in the sector, the fraud cannot be committed.”

He said the people steal as much as 30,000 kilos of energy monthly. “We thought that they erased the screen with some instrumentation, that where there was a consumption of 50,000 kilos, a screen was placed that read 20,000, stealing 30,000 kilos.”

In that regard the distributor Edesur announced that to prevent theft it’s changing the meters’ panels with ones that have a security feature, after news source elcaribe.com.do yesterday published a report on the robberies or curing in the sectors Quisqueya, El Million, Las Praderas and others.

Jeb, They seem very sturdy and well made. Cables are heavy-duty, built with top-quality wire and clamps but are very flexible and easy to store. I've purchased extra sets as gifts.

Why pay when ya can jump off the power!!~!

Dread,
Just try to get a power company repair man to come out when a line is out... They never come and you can call all you want and they tell you the same story. They are not providing reliable power or reliable customer service.
