SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez and Puerto Rico governor Luis Fortuño Wednesday agreed on strategies to more effectively combat drug trafficking and on an energy integration project via a submerged cable in the Caribbean, to improve the systems of energy and lower its prices in both countries,.

Among the other agreements figure the resumption of the ferry service and trade that may include Haiti, for which the two leaders formed commissions to follow-up the accords reached during the more than one hour meeting in the National Palace.

Fernandez, speaking to the press in the Ambassadors Hall of the National Palace hailed the agreements. “What we’ve done is to bolster the Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic strategic alliance in diverse scopes of mutual cooperation in trade, education, security, energy, science and technology. In each of these areas we formed sub commissions to widen the proposals."

He said the proposals include implementation of an energy project for the Caribbean that now requires feasibility studies, which in his view benefit both nations.

In the press conference in which vice president Rafael Alburquerque also participated, among other senior officials, Fortuño affirmed that the energy project would lower prices and guarantee the service.

To the Editor: PR is NOT a country !

I trust Fortuno is wearing a stormsuit/HD Raincoat while he spends time at the DR National Palace, for there is a ton of BS flying around that place yesterday & today.

My dear Luis, you will never get paid for the total amount of electricity the DR buys. In turn, you will only increase the burden on the US Taxpayers, who will be the folks that pay for your ignorant decisions. Bad idea. Anyone with an eigth grade education can call this one !

Tele, does PR have an operating nuke power plant ? Excess energy ?? Any Island has to have a lagerer than normal/required installed capacity to ensure system reliability. The DR also has that excess installed capacity, as does Curacao, Aruba, Antigua, etc..

Talk about OWNER of the country, This was leonels plan all along, distress all electric generating company, close them down and use his company that he purchased or went partners in PR ....whala submerged power cable AlaFernandez.

With the governments track record I see in the near future, DR being held hostage by leonel in PR giving threats of pulling the cord on the Island......this is not a good IDEA. Plus, he will be using the money he stold from the first loan to pay-off the present bill.

As soon as they connect that sucker to the DR electric grid, you will see more blackouts in Puerto Rico and not just that, but DR is not going to pay for the electricity !!!

Puerto Rico is a nation, in Commonwealth with the U.S. (check our flag in the Olympics). Truth is, we must band together before the Castros die because when Uncle Sam moves back into Havana, we're all going to be the ugly sisters.
