Santo Domingo.- The discoveries and research conducted in Dominican Republic on the Generalized Primary Distonía, defined as a very strange, neurodegenerative disease which affects white skin children in the southwestern town Cabral, Barahona, will be an important contribution in the advances for its treatment therapeutic.

Doctor Susan J. Hayflick, Interim Chair and Professor of Oregon Health & Science University made the statement Tuesday night, on her discovery of the DNA gene carrier code responsible for the disease.

The researcher headed a lecture together with Dr. Penny Hogarth, neurosurgeon who specializes in patients with motor problems caused by the ailment known as NBIA, held in the Robert Reid Cabral Children Hospital and with the support of the NBIA Hope and Faith Foundation.

Iron

The scientist said the strange disease, with highly pronounced cases in Dominican Republic’s southwest and which affects the locomotive system, balance, speech, and hinders the patients’ endurance, results from the accumulation of iron in the brain which attacks that sector of the population, and adults in lower scale.

Hayflick said while different formulas are being tried to find a treatment based on medicine and specialized care, a cure or an immediate solution against the disease don’t exist.  She added that Japan, Germany and other nations have detected many degenerative forms of the disease, but it’s the Dominican Republic which has registered the most cases.

Newspaper Listin recently revealed that several specialists have after more than nine years of research uncovered a rare neurological disease in the Southwest, severely affecting  22 white children.

Depends on your belief, theory, definition and interpretation of white and/or black. If for you the only white people are those who belong to the Aryan race, fair skin, blue-eye, blond or red hair, and everybody else is black, then there is little to no white Dominicans. However, if you expand the categories and make it more inclusive, then yes of course we have white Dominicans.

Remember this is not just research on degenerative deseases, it is also a DNA study on a very specific racial group of people in the DR and before any definitive conclusion was realized, race had to be definitively and firmly established beforehand. So genetically and not visually, it was proven that caucasian people exist in the DR, in numbers much greater then what most people think.

Well, I guess the methology used by Escott, Tony Tun Tun and El Papa999 are 100% right and the researchers from Oregon Health & Science University are all wrong. The results of the genetic/DNA tests done by these highly qualified Doctors are completely inaccurate, the results which they came up with are a false positive for "white" there is no such thing as a white Dominican and everybody in the DR has tainted blood from colored people. Let have all of these WASP gringo doctors pack-up their bags and send them back on the first flight to Oregon. They are wasting valuable resources, money, time and effort with all that scientific Bull Crap. Dr. Penny Hogarth, neurosurgeon and Doctor Susan J. Hayflick are a couple of idiots, two of the 3 stooges, only Escott, Tony and El Papa know exactly what they are talking about. KUDOS to you three on your profound, highly credible and professional racial analysis of the DR. Best Regards.

Like I said about 90% are mixed. There are some purely black or purely white dominicans but they are the minority. When I say pure I mean pure no mixing not just some light skin person with a wide nose and big lips or some really black person with straight hair. Some folks want to impose the US standards of black/white to the DR and cant see beyond the fact that most dominicans do not look purely african or purely european and even the Spanish that originally populated the DR were mixed with Arabs. The list goes on and on and on....

When they state 11% it refers to pure unmixed blacks. The eastern border regions of the DR has the highest concentration such as Samana, San Pedro and La Romana and San Cristobal near the capital just to name a few. The Cibao region has the greatest number of Dominicans who are predominately caucasian of southern european ancestry and tri-racials one of the largest groups in the DR.

Imagine these dumb a*** Haitians mad about colorism when Haiti is the most blackest country in the Caribbean. In Haiti you don't have whites you have Arabs that are not even close to being Anglos.' On top of that, they are an insignificant minority, out of the 5% they are perhaps a quarter of 1%. But yet you want to impose you're B.S. on others... I mean it don't take a rocket scientist to understand you're frustration. Haiti is like the most RACIST COUNTRY, where even being a mulatto will get you slaughtered. What a bunch of self hating blacks... These are the one's that are flooding the D.R. and making us look like Gabon in Africa. Damn Haitians get the f**k out of D.R.

A system of racial stratification was imposed on Santo Domingo by Spain, as elsewhere in the Spanish Empire.[citation needed] Its effects have persisted, reaching their culmination in the antihaitianismo of the Trujillo regime, as the dictator used racial persecution and nationalistic fervor against Haitians.[51][73] A U.N. envoy in October 2007 found racism against blacks in general, and Haitians in particular, to be rampant in every segment of Dominican society.[74] According to a study by the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, about 90% of the contemporary Dominican population has West African ancestry to varying degrees.[75] However, most Dominicans do not self-identify as black, in contrast to people of West African ancestry in other countries. A variety of terms are used to represent a range of skin tones, such as moreno/a (brown), canelo/a (red/brown) ["cinnamon"], indio/a (Indian), blanco/a oscuro/a ........cont

Ramona Hernández, director of the Dominican Studies Institute at City College of New York asserts that the terms were originally a defense against racism: "During the Trujillo regime, people who were dark skinned were rejected, so they created their own mechanism to fight it." She went on to explain, "When you ask, 'What are you?' they don't give you the answer you want ... saying we don't want to deal with our blackness is simply what you want

Though many posters here use racial slurs, do not get confused, it is only to express their anger and frustration. Dominicans are the most accepting and receptive people on the face of the earth. So please hold back on your concept of American race relations, it has nothing to do with us. it is much more complex and beyond that. It has very little to do with racism and more about patriotism and survival of our national identity. It is clearly stated in our constitution it specifically establishes a precept that we must maintain complete separation from Haiti and not unification. We do not want to be united. Good job Dreadlocks, you teached Telemeco a lesson 2day. I’m Dominican & it makes me sad 2 hear people like Telemeco speak this way. I just can believe he said Dominicans run N.Y. I will repeat what El Factor said the REAL WHITE people run N.Y. & in some ways they also run the D.R; weather you like or not.

No singer from the D.R. can or will ever be compare 2 the legend Robert Nesta Marley, Bob was in another level when it came 2 music, lyrics & proud 2 be black.

Regarding Cuban music, I would like Telemeco 2 compare a Dominican Singer to Celia Cruz another legend that was also proud to be black. Please don’t get me wrong I love 2 dance & get a good workout 2 Merengue & Bachata, but that’s all it is does 4 any body. I think if Dominican started listening 2 the lyrics of reggae music specially Bob Marley’s lyrics they will start 2 appreciate their African heritage.

By the way gives thanks 2 the African heritage 4 Merengue & Bachata.
I can hear the drum beat in every song.

It is so SAD to even read to yourself that Dominicans run N.Y. It's a big slap to all Reasonable Dominicans. Dominicans are nothing in N.Y.C. You said it right. We are a whole bunch of bodega, supermarket, frio frio, fried pasteles, whatever sellers, period. The real businesses are run by the old good white men.

An average Domican small business probably tops = $150K

A White Men business tops = $500K - $1 Mil

When it comes to music, Dominicans are so behind. So you know the real parents of caribean music are CUBANS .... AFRO/CUBANS...read before you open your mouth. You make us all Dominicans look ignorant and stupid. And by the way, our music sucks, we are nothing in U.S.A.

When it comes to music - Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans own the market. Dominicans are an insult to music in the U.S.A; their music is the lowest class. Except, if you are Aventura, Prince Royce, etc.

You must first read and understand a subject before you go aronund saying things like this...

JDPTrinity, i guess you have said it all. the problem with guys who write that crap is that they have no idea of how things really run in NYC. they have no clue where the real power is. i read some crap about Dominicans taking over the auto repair business. that is such a joke. as it stands today, no auto repair shop which is not affiliated with an insurance carrier is making any money. they are all fixing cash jobs. very few, if any, Dominican shops were on the insurance company preferred lists, at least up until 2008. but guys just write crap, and embarrass their fellow countrymen. for a guy to say that a jamaican could not fill Madison Square Garden, he must have never heard of the late Bob Marley, who filled football stadiums the world over, and is ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as number 11 in the list of 100 greatest singers of all time, in pop music. no Dominican made the list, by the way.

ELPAPA999, there is nothing wrong with being proud of the achievements of your own countrymen. i am jamaican, and i will die proud of my old friend, the late Bob. yes, there are great Dominican musicians. a tenor saxophone jazz player called Rivera, i forget his first name, made a name for himself in that genre, playing with some of the great players in the USA. I love the stuff from Juan Luis, and it is always so well recorded, it is a pleasure to just listen to it for hours. but bachata, and merengue, are small , localised art forms, compared to reggae. so, telemeco, before you further embarrass your compatriots, do some research, and learn something, preferably from other Dominicans who know better.

Look cheyenneasanti my point is this. Dominicans in general don't want unification and the reason is not because of race. We are too much of a racially mixed nation to use it as a motive. However, it is the prohaitians advocates the ones who just like you, constantly pull the race card in an attempt to support their argument. It is nothing but a cop out, a last resort, the only available mechanism for defense. But a weak one at that. The race and color issue is just one leg to stand on other then that, there is absolutely nothing else, simply no advantages for Dominicans to become a one island nation.

As far as discrimination in Dominican clubs are concerned. Well, what you heard is actually class discrimination disguised as racism. I do not condone this practice. But you must accept that these are exceptions and not the rule. Those places are privately owned, exclusive high end which may or may not use race to keep people out and a close knit circle of friends and associates in. I am not exactly white, but have been allowed into a few of those clubs. Why I was permitted entry is my guess, maybe I satisfied minimum requirements. Nevertheless, night clubs are notorious for being arrogantly selective about the patrons they serve. In general Dominicans are very open and accepting of outsiders, that is fact. You and I know that and had it not been for that you would have never been able to start a family in the DR. So leave your race crap in the US. What you know is superficial, our racial issues are much more complex then what you think, believe and could possibly understand.

PatDiamond...........Please understand ElFactor has a rare attitude, not experienced much here, HE IS A RACIST. "guillermone" is correct that some of the dislike of the Haitians was to the Haitian occupation. The Spanish did the most damage with their "CLASS SYSTEM". You had to be Spanish or a Mestizo (Native American and Spanish ancestry) to be considered human. In general the Dominicans are a well mixed (racially) culture (not race) and does not have many problems with racial bigotry. Please do not criticize the Dominican culture or the Latino culture for the actions of one fool. Remember, we are online and Elfactor may no be a Dominican in real life.

One more thought: People work for less when they do not have a viable alternative. The Haitians also work for less in the Dominican Republic. Colodrm stop making a fool of yourself. The problem is the Haitian mentality of disunity and their hatred towards anyone that's not black. Haitian history is full of massacres and civil wars between people of different races. Blacks committing genocide against whites, blacks committing massacres against Haitian mulattoes. And theyre trying to impose their haterd towards whites on Dominicans, through their expression on this board. But it wont work on us, for we became one united against Haiti to gain our independence from them. Something that never occurred in Haiti, understand that atleast! The most funny thing is that black Haitians occupied 22 yrs the DR and it was decided by Boyer an Haitian Mulatto. The Haitian mulattoes decided to control all the island and the black Haitians got the blame.

Do you really think that if the ALL the HAITIAN population had decided to conquer the spanish side you'll get your independence ? It's ONLY the rich high class mulatttoes who decided to control spanish ayiti.

My question is WHY you hate so much the HAITIANS who colonized your country for 22 yrs?

Why you don't have this same hate against Spain or the USA ? These 2 countries also colonized spanish ayiti right ?

During USA invasion (twice in 20th century) rapes, tortures, killing was spreading all over la hispaniola by the US marines, why don't you hate them like the Haitians ? Spanish destroyed millions of Native Indians in the caribbeans and south America why don't you hate them as well ?
