President Fernandez. File.
Santo Domingo.- For the second time this year president Leonel Fernandez affirmed that there isn’t an organized system that spurs corruption in the country, and instead are individuals who violate the Law.
He said the Government has shown its interest to confront the problem and noted that all sectors need to state their commitment against it.
He said mechanisms must be established that promote values and the sense of shame, honor and unwavering dignity. “It’s a set of elements that we must promote to have a better society.”
The chief executive headed the presentation on Wednesday of a diagnosis to bolster transparency in government agencies, of the project Participative Anticorruption Initiatives (IPA), with the support of 11 international cooperation agencies in the Hilton hotel.

He should define corruption so that the debate could have a starting point. In the process he should explain to all, the source of his meteoric rise in wealth since he became president, with his salary and perks.

Structured corruption? No.
A blind eye to corruption committed by fellow party members? Just look at what is happening.
What we really need is some law enforcement and some punishment for those found in violation of the laws, instead of the coddling and impunity that he practices. He believes that the people are so stupid that they will believe him and tolerate more of his abuse. Since we are talking about an uneducated and uninformed populace (thanks to his policies) he is probably right.
What nerve this charlatan has. He is full of you know what.
Question: How can you tell LF is lieing?
Answer: His lips are moving.

Now Leonel don't go out giving ideas to our already corrupted politicians.
Next thing you know they will introduce a law to support victims of being caught while committing corruption activities .
I wonder what the name would be for such a state department.

"Dominican President again denies structured Government corruption"
HOGWASH !!!!!!! The dude knows exactly what is going on and attempts to plead ignorance as the perfect excuse to wash his hands of all the corruption in government. He is simply playing the game of politics. If he goes after his political cronies in an attempt to eliminate corruption, it is a sure death sentence, the end of his political career. These dirty bastards are the ones who help him get and stay in power to create the perfect environment that would facilitate the misappropritation of government funds as they spend public money. The DR gov't is suppose to encouraged administrative transparency. However, there often is no clear delineation of when an appointment to office is a result of "cronyism." It is precisely for this reason that Leonel successfully obtained and achieve his position — It is a tough cookie to crack, because cronyism is easier to perceive than to demonstrate and prove.

If the President spends more time in the country he will see the corruption. His (LF) way of dealing with the issue is to have his "gumbas" (gangster types) to intimidate the media and have them go out of business, as we've seen with the recent attempted assignation on a high profile media executive from Clave.

Corruption is the way of life in the D.R. It is the way to survive. Small-time crooks and big-time crooks are all the same. Some live in poverty day-to-day, and some wear silk suits. Only the size of their deeds separate them. The rich get richer through corruption and the poor crook continues to struggle to survive. A great facade is created with tourism - but the country 'runs' on paolas and corruption from deep in its bowels. The uneducated are kept surpressed and government, along with the rich, continue to rape the country. The poor turn to crime as a matter of existence.
