Santo Domingo.- National District Assistant DA Giselle Odalisa Reyes was gunned down while heading home last night in a residential street of the municipality Santo Domingo East, after to returning from a nearby restaurant.

The victim, 31, was assigned to the National District Office of the Prosecutor around eight months ago and had held the same post in Monte Plata and twice in Santo Domingo provinces. She had four children.

The preliminary Police report says Reyes was returning from the restaurant with her assigned bodyguard, a Police sergeant, when two unidentified men intercepted them in the street Eugenio Maria de Hostos, and shot her in the chest.

It said 14 shells were recovered at the scene, one of them fired the bodyguard, according to his own version.

The sergeant is being questioned because before the shooting, he had went to Reyes’ house to ask if she had already arrived.

Vivas Mexico, gracias Leonel.
Leonel, you have turned your back on the drug problem so that you can focus on basic corruption in your party and keep feeding Diandion Pena his money for his support.
Your leadership or better said lack of it will be your countries downfall.

Jealousy is not to be discarded either.

At any event, since the Constitution is about to be re-opened to allow for unlimited presidential re-election, why not also amend it to include capital punishment for crimes of that nature?

Violent crimes against public officials, children and tourists should be included. Drug offences too. Maybe legal drafters should read Chinese, Thai or Malaysian laws about drug trafficking.

You cant even trust your own bodyguard that is supposed to protect you .. there were 14 bullet shells recovered and only one from the bodyguard? come on what was he doing while the perpetrators were shooting the other 13 bullets at this poor woman. This country needs a miracle to change it

The country does not need a miracle, just a strong hand that is willing to take arms against these savages. Unfortunately, we had not had a strong hand since Balaguer left power in 1996. I tell you, I may have disagreed with many PRSC and Balaguer policies, but cartel based killings did not occur on his time.

The bodyguard is the number 1 suspect. How come he wasn't killed? Did he fire his weapon? Let this be a wake up call, killing a prosecutor is a huge atatck on society. Don't let this go unpunished.

"The “March of the brides” will be staged for the first time in the country today, aimed at sensitizing society on the serious consequences derived from the violence against women."

What happened to these people? You'd have thought they would be the first to DEMAND that empty suit President to do SOMETHING.

Is there any more heinous crime against women by other Dominicans?

And where is LF? He must have shoved his head up his ass, again. Next he’ll say there is no structured violence against women. What a first class loser.

First shoot the body guard, IF he is not critically wounded in the protection of his charge then he is not doing his job. This is another warning to judical employees: follow orders or else. Do any of you remember when a Sosua judge(?) was killed in a fussilade of =/- 30 shots. The assilants shot up his car presumably hoping he would fight back and then be ? what resisting arrest ? when he didn't go for his gun he was shot in the head. DCNC or what ever anacranium was involved in that.

Yes, his name was Penalo Ceballos.

There was a commission appointed. Nothing came out.

Another case that went to the crusher.

My condolences to Giselle Reyes family, I am sure many people like myself who didn't know her still respected her for the job she was doing and sympathize with you on your loss. I think that a lot of heads need to roll on this, this narcocracty is totally out of respectful citizen’s control and in the pocket of corruption - Corruption has no soul, morals, respect, decency, honour only the quick buck for the new house, jeepetas for all including the mistress and flash cash. Look for those who have much and do little, follow the money, it will go way up the ladder - it needs to be romoved at the roots - not stem and branch.

Wild, Wild, West...

How could anyone live in the DR?

The only way to stop it is by killing all the inmates/drug dealers/....who cares about human rights. Lets clean up the DR before it gets worst.

Perhaps legalization is the best way to go - I really don't give a shit if some dumb ass kills themself sooner rather than later – do you? It matters little what brings them down cigarettes - rum or pills, snorts and/or injection ? - how about over eating -? When do we stop being our fellow mans keeper? We are all going to go some time /some way. Should abuse victims be family or close friends I will do my best to put them on what I perceive to be the right path.
Damn Leo, you can tax to the max an in demand and in use commodity and it will still be cheaper on the street than now and no complaints for the citizen’s at large due less crime and the police will be able to concentrate on real crime with victims hurt by others. I would guess a lot of ‘law enforcement types’ that would not piss on a burning junkie will get all teary eyed about abandoning these self abusing asses. These same groups are some of the biggest gainers from the present unworkable system.

Tony TT, your question "How could anyone live in the DR?" should read "Why would anyone live in the DR unless they absolutly had to?"

On another DR related Forum, there is a thread titled "Why do you love the DR? Positive responses only please." Read it, and it makes you wonder if those posters live on the same Island? Sometimes, I feel people only see what they want to see, till it hits them between the eyes !

It is very sad indeed what has happned to this woman, and this murder is a direct assult on the DR society. A civil sosiety would never tolerate this crap, therefore what does it say for the DR's ??

Those who can leave the DR, should for their own (families) safety.

Appologies, I shot off my half baked opinion faster than the body guard by dominicantodays account but rival <http://www.dr1.com> reports quit a different and confusing story. Abridged - "she was walking along with her driver when two armed individuals told them to stop gunfire broke out immediately. Her companion, identified only as Luciano, is being questioned. Reyes Diaz was hit by a gunshot in the back, with no visible exit wound. e the two pizza boxes the prosecutor had bought were in the house, since the driver, when the gunfire started, managed to reach the house and asked relatives if the magistrate had come back". and "At the crime scene, the authorities found 14 shell casings, of which 13 were supposedly fired at the assailants by her driver” sounds like he left Reyes (working in department of Gender Violence) and her friend to some privacy when things took place. "The Police are working on the hypothesis that it was a robbery or perhaps a relationship problem". Sorry

Those happy posters are the ones that don´t care or don´t have to put up with the concerns of "normal people".

They for the most part live in gated communities, don´t speak Spanish, hardly read the papers and live in gringo ghettos. Like permanent vacationers.

Happy campers, until they get a flat tire at the wrong place and time.

Then, they´ll be enlightened.

Defenily this country need a clean up and fast, before more good and inocent people loose their life, Start by cleaning up the police & millitary force, they are the real problem, and cant be trusted.

Is funny how the Police sgt, had went to Reyes’ house to ask if she had already arrived. and then the bodyguard shot only 1 time, and the victim was shot in the chest once. 13 casing left, but neither the guard or the police sgt got hit once.,,,,,, I bet the guard shot her and the sgt is involve. Case close, found them both guity, sentence to hang both and find the one who sent them to hang them to.

Yes, four children.

And what is your president doing? NOTHING.

He does not have the moral fiber to be a president, he is a coward. This is truly pathetic, you Dominicans should be embarrassed.
