BERLIN. - Transparency International again calls Venezuela one of the world’s most corrupt countries, in its annual report released in Berlin Tuesday.

The entity said the Dominican Republic scored a 3 in the ranking where a 10 is the least corrupt, the same score for 2009.

The report says Chile is Latin America’s most transparent nation, while Venezuela occupies the 164th position of the 178 countries included in the NGO’s 2010 study, below Paraguay and Haiti (both ranked 146).

Honduras (134), Nicaragua and Ecuador (127 both) were the other countries with low scores, as well as Bolivia (110).

Near the top of the global ranking among the 178 countries was Chile with a score of 21, followed by Uruguay (24), Puerto Rico (33) and Costa Rica (41), trailed by Brazil and Cuba (both in position 69).

Since 1995, Transparency the International publishes the annual Corruption Perception  Index, from a high of "10" for a country perceived as " transparent," to "0" for one viewed as "corrupt."

Blaming LF for Corruption in the DR is like the family of a suicide victim blaming the Gun Manufacturer.

The DR was corrupt before LF. Everyone knew that the DR would remain corrupt under LF.
Still the Vast Majority of Dominicans voted for him.
Just like they Voted for Mejia before and will vote for another one after.
The DR has a culture of corruption. Virtually everyone participates in some from.

The President isn't the problem. He is a symptom.

i don't see the actual ranking of the DR on the report...by the way, i stopped beleiving on this one when it reports that Venezuela is more Corrupted than Haiti, that turned a serious argument to another JOKE.

Atabey, I don't think this is the same rating. The one on the article has 178 countries. The link you provide has only 110. Venezuela is the 75th spot on your link whereas they are 164th on the other report, so my guess is that DR is at about 140ish or so on the 178 countries report.

DT.. given that you know the ranks of the other countries? Do you happen to have the ranks for DR?

Ok it looks like DR is on the 101st spot:

I guess Leonel will only admit to the existence of corruption as per the reports that are churned out one after another if one very special truth-telling person tells him.

His mother.

Corruption runs rampant in EVERY country, even in the United States. The United States should be on the top of that list too.

I'm a little confused, Venezuela at the beginning of the article is ranked the most corrupt, as in number 1? Or is in the list of the most corrupt, ranking position no. 164. That is how I interpret it....
Who is number 1? I am really curious, I live in the Dominican Republic, and I need to know this...Thanx!!

Looks fairly accurate from looking at it. I have not been to that many place on the list I can imagine there are some countries more corrupt than us. We should be ashamed to be in such a bad spot though. Thinking we can't blame LF is a crock though. Who is going to protect us from corrupt officials? Higher officials. Ending corruption starts at the very top. Nobody is going to prosecute head of the PN and he was most certainly corrupt being friends and handing out honorary membership to notorious drug dealers. The facts are out and people know whats going on now we have to get together and fix the problem.

Amber, thanks for clarifying my doubt...
This phrase in the article above , copied and pasted below, confused me...

"The entity said the Dominican Republic scored a 3 in the ranking where a 10 is the least corrupt, the same score for 2009."

So 1 is the least corrupt, not 10? Well I now assume there is another way of ranking, If Venezuela is in 164 and we are in 3, a subdivision of some sort for the ranking? I'm sorry, I'm just confused, got the numbers mixed up..
.We should be a TAD bit higher....not number 3...

Two metrics here "scale" and "ranking".

On a scale of 1 thru 10, "1" being the worst, DR is "scaled" a 3.

Out of 178 countries DR ranks 101. Denmark ranking "1" the least corrupt and Somalia ranking last (the most corrupt) coming in last at 178.

Yup, Got it...Thanx!
I insist, we should be in the scale a little lower,
and in the ranking a little higher.

The Miami Herald needs to keep doing articles and get the news out. Those border guards are corrupt just as the guy in charge is getting his cut. Another filthy liar. Any police official who says there is no corruption in the Dominican Republic is lying.
