SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Municipal League’s (LMD) General Secretary on Monday called an Accounts Chamber audit that reveals millions of pesos in irregularities in that agency’s accounts “political persecution.”

Amable Aristy said the auditors didn’t sit down with him to discuss the results and want to divert the attention toward a direction he didn’t specify.

"So what’s the reason they’ve questioned the financial situation of the Dominican Municipal League today and not before," said the also Altagracia Province Senator in a hastily called press conference.

Aristy blames a sector of the opposition PRSC party for the alleged persecution, but didn’t to names.

He said he doesn’t fear being taken to court as the result of the audit, which although a preliminary report says affirms occurred in March, 2008, it hadn’t been disclosed until now.

Despite the reporters’ insistence, Aristy didn’t respond to the alleged irregularities and said only it was political persecution.

And this Accounts Chamber needs to continue auditing ALL the municipalities of the nation. Sin tregua ninguna!! And get the people involved through Civic organizations!!

Then, perhaps a dent can be made on this score. And get on it with hitting hard the petty corruption and other not so petty corruption at the Airports. I would post Clear and Large signs with" Aquí No Se Permite Corrupción" with different groups, children and significant personalities pictured. List a toll free number to contact corrupt practices. Encourage calling!! Have people point to the signs when anyone seeks to attempt an act against the movement. Distribute small cards that look like US currency with "Aquí no se Permite Corrupción"

Typical Dominican... Not my fault.... I knew about the transparent graft and nepotism... But they never spoke to me... so it is not my fault...

Presidential pardon.

It has been written recently here that the time for this man is over and this time he has not bothered to be sworn into parliament nor has he represented his constituency . There seems to be so much smoke surrounding this man that it is impossible not to be believe that there is not a fire and this fire is one of corruption .
It seems that maybe the attack on corruption may have begun but the Accounts Chamber needs to remain very strong.

A typical politician. Probably no worse thatn any other. It's just that he has access to more money.

I sure would love to see the results of a full and accurate evaluation of Castro's financial worth from when he first got involved in politics up to the present. Although for that matter I would love to see this info revealed about every politician.

A few months ago in 2010, Don Francisco the Chilean TV personality who has a very successful TV show in the states, was seeing parking his fancy European car with the valet parking, at the most exclusive and expensive Bal Harbor shopping center, in Miami.
Many curious onlookers gathered waiting for Don Francisco to pick up his car, but who showed up in a more expensive newer Rolls Royce corniche convertible, Mr. Amable Aristy and his companions, spending in grand style, his graft moneys, and outshining Don Francisco.
Mr. Aristy (or the godfather of the east) also rides around in a brand new helicopter for many years now, bought with Liga Municipal funds as well.
This mega corruptor has had his hands in the kitty for many years now, and probabilities are, he will continue to do so, with his immunity as elected senator.
More grist for the Dominican mill.

More reason why this cat should be made the Poster Child of the Anti-Corruption Campaign. Remember Martha Stewart and how about Michael Milken nicknamed "The Junk Bond King" in the 1980s, Milken earned between $200 million and ... to attract fresh hordes of ghoulish people committing the same old crimes. Handcuffs And Smoking Guns: The Criminal Elements Of Wall Street. These DR equivalent criminals need to be thrown under the bus. The little people need their faith restored. Who will restore their faith in the system?

Brazen:

As reported in Diario Libre, the audit shows that the LMD paid RD$70.4 million in "assistance" to individuals, in cash. There were also payments for RD$89.2 million for the purchase of foodstuffs, with no paper support (requisitions etc), payments of salaries for RD$32.3 million to employees who do nothing in the agency. On the question of these payments, the report reveals that the payrolls have departments registered that physically do not exist, which was proven by fieldwork and a visit to the eastern region.

A true Patriot:

The entity paid out the sum of RD$20.6 million for advertising. In the contracts reviewed by the Chamber of Accounts auditors, it was found that they were not written by the entity or validated by the legal advisor, and they contained contradictions between the duration and the renewal dates. Then there is the helicopter that was purchased for US$995,000, as well as equipment that cannot be found, offices that do not seem to exist and employees who do not go to work.

The best part, THE BEST PART is that nothing will be done. We know it and he knows it.

SO PROUD TO BE DOMINICAN

Tocayo,

I did not know you were a defeatist? How dare you give up so easily!! Cave in to these corrupt individuals and groups! Where has your idealism about a better potential future for DR gone?

yes, Generoso , there are so many of my normally very reserved friends who never say much about politics who tell so many different bad stories about Amable Aristy that I am sure your story is correct ,One of my friends lives close to his home in Casa de Campo and tells me he very seldom uses his home but arrives in a blacked out huge car with usual thuggish security .

How come the only time we ever hear from him is just before an election and when he gets caught with his fingers in the beer cooler?

Take all his wealth away and whom ever recieved a check. If DR were to collect from all corrupted Gov employees and who ever benefited from these thieves, would set things straight...... EVERYTHING, any business created, off-shore bank accounts, race horses, HELICOPTERS, etc.... and void all income creating professional certs and licences from these crooks and all known associates. Bring them back down to earth and when they feel that they have endured the worst , start handing out jail sentences.

These assholes can create havok with the monies they steal, they have that FUC U monies and thats dangerous.

The question is not to devise a system that will eliminate all corruption, that's a fallacy for it will never be; the question for our leaders is to minimize corruption. And for this to take place important personalities need to be thrown under the bus and made examples for the rest of society. A strong National Campaign has to be initiated with symbols and communication accessories that facilitate the citizenry's collective faith is restored or ameliorated. The public just doesn't trust anyone and this brings about systemic weakening for any attempt that does not use a board and extensive policy of attack. As I've stated, Civic Organizations, children and famous personalities need to be included in this campaign process. A free call center to report financial and other corruption needs to be set up. Perhaps offer some payment in return,if the sums are large enough. People love to rat others out; that's how the police get a lot of leads.

The last of the Mohicans, I mean caudillos??

Think twice, they've mutated. They now look like normal people, they don't throw around chicken or piglets, but the species is adapting.

The latest studies show some of them actually speak decent English.
