Santo Domingo. -Dominican Police chief Jose A. Polanco and UN Haiti Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) Police commissioner Gerald Chaumont on Monday discussed the topic of organized crime, which they affirm both countries must face jointly.

Chaumont’s visit to Polanco, in addition to analyze the war against organized crime, served to discuss other crimes related to drug trafficking and education, the Police said in a statement.

They also discussed topics related to bilateral agreements on the training of Haiti police officers, who will come to the Dominican Republic to take part in training on criminal investigations, drug trafficking, auto theft and intelligence.

Organized crime is a menace. It completely distorts economies and political systems . It's amazing that even in Italy and the U.S. that mobsters can survive for decades. Hait's plight is not surprising. Mafia elements search for weaknesses in governance, law enforcement and infrastructure and exploit them. Haiti is a good target right now.

Countries struggle to develop as a result pernicious organized criminal elements. The Triads, Yakuza, Russian Mob poison not only there own countries but others as well. In the U.K., Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned with nuclear materials that were, however impossibly, brought into the country. In Thailand, a German who involved in some business conflicts in Pattaya was blown up remotely with C4. http://www.thailawforum.com/foreign-mafia-thailand-2.html Foreign mafia in Thailand have a significant interest in Thailand and lax law enforcement coupled with porous borders makes Thailand an ideal resting place for mob elements.
