Santo Domingo.- Opposition PRD party president Miguel Vargas Maldonado affirmed Tuesday that his organization proposes “a national pact for change” that aims to recruit other political forces, social movements and national personalities who agree that the country urgently yearns for a new form of governing. “It’s not only a change of government, but a change of attitude, a change in the exercise of a government to benefit the Dominican people.”

He said the transformation he proposes will be focused against “overflowed government corruption” in the current Administration and for neglecting basic aspects for the population’s well-being.

In his view there must be political will to confront corruption and enforce the laws against it. “Here we have very good laws, such as the Contracting and Purchasing Law, and others which the Government obviously ignores, because it doesn’t respond to the common good

Until the Dominican Republic becomes a Nation ofGIVERS instead of a Nation of TAKERS, no amount of rhetoric is going to take root and grow into tree of HONOR and INTEGRITY.

Let's get the truth out about his purchase and sale of the Hispaniola, and then maybe he will either have some credibility in talking about corruption, or more likely disappear.

His previous track record is proof enough how badly he is lying. He had his chances and failed already miserably. Someone should point that out to him since he is apparently too occupied counting his corruption and drug proceeds to remember we all know who he is.

Give me a break. All of these slimeballs lie the same way and as soon as they are in office it's bussiness as usual.

They must think that all Dominicans are stupid.

Vargas is trying to reband the disgruntled suckers that made the PLD win the last 2 elections and did not get their botellas.

Maybe it'll work.

It has nothing to do with fighting corruption though. Rather, everything to do with getting a shot at it.

MadMax;

I spent over 10 years in the DR observing your political process at work (???).
As a result of those observations, I made the statement posted.
While being critical in some eyes, the statement I made is true, as I am sure you will agree when you stand back and take a god look at your mores and society.
I have many friends in the DR whom I consider to be incorruptable. Unfortunately, their voices are drowned out by the repetative rhetoric of your consistantly elected officials.
None of the political parties represented are any different from each other in the final analysis and the sooner you and others who continue to make excuses for their perfomance the sooner you will be able to begin to change the international public's opinion of your country.
I moved my family (my wife and three adopted children) to the USA so they would have opportunities not available to them in the DR's social and political atmosphere.
I do not apologize for my statement.

Would it be fair to say that DR is a third world country; would it be fair to say that 90% of Latin America is third world; would it be fair to say that in that 90%, DR is the most corrupt, some folks, fall on their asses believing so and that their prerogative….we see everyday more and more oversight agencies looking at the issue of corruption, so don’t try to, sweet talk us out of our believe that our nation is not addressing the issue.

If these agencies are REALLY looking into the obvious and abundant corruption where are the results?

Where are the criminal prosecutions? Where are the penalties? Where is the punishment?

Until I, and many others, see results we are forced to believe that these commissions are just for show.

TexasBill,
I beg your pardon.
But Excuses Where? am very aware of what the DR is, am not excusing anybody here,
I have never agree or even vote for any Politicians of the DR cause they all teach me not to and I have no choices. The only different between Politicians in other Nations and DR is Transparency. My message was not direct exclusively to you but when you and others just repeat and repeat things like:
Nation ofGIVERS instead of a Nation of TAKERS
Please tell me do you look into the DR History in your 10 years living there to find out how much is been Taken from other Nations? wich are the GIVERS Nations? the ones that Bla Bla Bla Haiti and then nothing, come on! DR really have a problem, A BIG ONE with Haiti, but is OK the GIVERS will come no? HONOR? hehe this is a good one I really love to see some of that any where in the world, maybe in a jungle of Japan you'll find some the western influence din'd get.
The DR Extructure and education will never be fix till
