Santo Domingo.- The attempted murder on June 2  against the lawyer and journalist Jordi Veras in Santiago has been solved, newspaper Diario Libre reports, adding that the alleged hired killers in the criminal plot to ambush him when he entered the parking lot of Santiago’s Channel 25 around 6:25 a.m. are under arrest.

It reports that the hired killers’ intermediary was identified and is also behind bars.

Among those who paid to murder Veras is Francisco Alberto Carela, who also is also linked to a network of extortionists who secretly filmed couples in motels using forged court orders.

Another detainee, despite not being identified, is accused of stealing the motorcycle used in the ambush to execute Veras for RD$1.5 million, of which RD$200,000 were advanced in RD$20 bills, and the rest when the “contract" was m fulfilled. Since the attack failed, the alleged mastermind had demanded carrying out what was agreed to, revealed a recording done in the Rafey jail in Santiago, where the plot was hatched. The authorities obtained the taped conversation after Carela’s arrest   

Veras’ father, the famed lawyer Ramon Antonio Veras (Negro) yesterday said since June 2 he knew “perfectly well” who ordered the hit on his son, who was paying with his life the price of loyalty and professional sincerity with his client, Miguelina Llaverías, ex wife of Adriano Roman, convicted of attempted murder against her.
