Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government prohibited Monday the sale of used garments in markets along its border with Haiti to prevent the entry of cholera from Haiti, and whose merchants depend on for income, together with footwear.
Army Chief of Staff Carlos Rivera said Monday that security along the border has been heightened with more soldiers to prevent contagion by Haitians who cross into Dominican territory
In that regard Public Health minister Bautista Rojas affirmed that the ban on the sale of garments is part of the sanitary controls to keep the epidemic from affecting Dominican Republic.
He said though there is no evidence that garments can spread the disease, it’s referable to control their commerce because the hygiene and the way it’s handled cannot be controlled.
Meanwhile in Dajabón and Elias Piña, two of the four border markets, thousands of Haitians from different towns waited for entry since Sunday, but the gates weren’t opened yesterday reportedly because of problems with the official paperwork.

Now they're back at it, using cholera as justification.
At any event, poor people need access to "ropas de pacas". It's better to pay 20 pesos for a cheap T-shirt that 150 for cheap chinese junk.
And many people make a living off of it too.
The old "problems with official paperwork" ruse.
It's actually a problem with the officiials.
