Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Public Health Ministry is investigating over ten suspected cases of cholera even tough authorities state that it does not necessarily mean the people with symptoms have the disease.

According to Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez, Haitian Pierre Ronaud, 30, who had cholera-like symptoms, was found not to have the infection after lab tests. "One confirmed case involving a resident of Higuey, Wilmos Lowes, 32, has made a full recovery and has been discharged from hospital," he added.

He was the first confirmed case of cholera in The Dominican Republic. The Health Ministry emphasized that "everything proceeds normally" in the country.

Officials also inform that a 3-month old baby girl who came into hospital with cholera-like symptoms is stable and doing well. Her grandmother, who is at home is being tested.

Experts and health care professional have been mobilized throughout the country, seeking out and testing patients with cholera-like symptoms, such as diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. Rivers are being checked and if necessary disinfected and extra chlorine has been added to tapwater.

Leonel may be reacting right now to the cholera outbreak in Haiti and the Dominican Republic however he should have created sanitary conditions in the DR.

Since raw sewage is dischaged into the ocean the chances that this will enter the water table and eventually the dringing water is extremely likely. eg. Santo Domingo and rio Isabella and San Pedro des Macoris and the list goes on.

The sanitary water conditions in the DR are deplorable as is the garbage disposal lineing the streets in the DR.

So leonel before you blame the Hatians for your short comings cleea up your own house first.

Somehow, I believe the DR will downplay the news of Cholera cases, as it will impact negatively the visitors planning visits to the country. All media reports will be carefully monitored. The potentail risk for a major outbreak in a tourist center like Pt Cana/Bavaro is huge. Many folks eating and drinking at the same trough...at the AIs.

Do you know how to read? There are absolutely no statements on the article by President Fernandez on Haitian blame.

You desperately need hooked on phonics. By the way, Leonel Fernandez is Pro-Haitian. LOL.

As usual the pesky MORON who goes by the name of Danny00 is making an overly-simplistic, disingenuous anti-Dominican observation.

P.S. Danny00 is the typical poster child for stupidity and illiteracy. Unfortunately, his own approach ignores his very own unsavory historical record.

Human stupidity is a mental illness. Unfortunately, even at some basic level, stupid people fail to distinguish the outside world from their inner world. They believe inherently that reality is their servant, not their master.

This all can be avoided if the Dominican goverment close the border and take the necessary defensive measures to avoid a germ warfare . when shit hit the fan and you see the downgrade in tourism there's no comeback from that

Wait guy you said everyone in here has issues but you didn't make yourself as an exception or me cause I dont have issues? And stupidity has nothing to do with being haitian I don't get why haitians are blamed for anything that happens or the way someone acts. Haven't you heard of taking responsibility for your own actions. This is vexation just very vexating!
