Feliz Jimenez, President Fernandez, Francisco Javier Garcia.
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia denounced that there’s an international campaign taking advantage of haiti’s cholera epidemic to detour to other nations the tourists headed to Dominican Republic.
However he rejected that governments of other countries wage campaign, and instead businesspeople interested profiting from the situation.
The official , talking to reporters in Jarabacoa during an activity headed by president Leonel Fernandez, also guaranteed that neither cholera nor any no other disease will affect tourists who visit, affirming that his country has a reliable sanitary system.
“So far we aren’t having any type of inconvenience because it’s clear that Dominican Republic has a sanitary structure which allows it to confront cholera and other diseases," Garcia said in the inaugural of the first stage of the Jarabacoa Country Club, whose main promoter is his predecessor Felix Jimenez.

Really??? And if someone does get "any other disease"...what guarantee is there that the Dominican government will take full responsability?
The statements as of late are not what you would expect of people in high places.
A reliable sanitation system??? Look at the sides of the roads....look at the guys pissing in the streets as the tour buses pass. It is time some people looked outside the tinted windows.

The statements as of late are exactly what you would expect of people in high places in the DR.
BS. BS. and more BS.

Honestly, as a consumer, in the present circumstances, I would not choose DR as my vacation destination in the presence of that threat.
No matter what the Minister says.

What a joke. Any tourist who has ever visited and looked beyond the all inclusive resort knows the sanitary structure of the country is horrible in more locations than it is good. Just because the resort has good sanitation don't forget about all the workers who live in poverty when they go home. Many of them have no bathroom or running water and are in danger of catching cholera. Tourists come in direct contact with plenty of locals who work in the resort and can easily pass the disease to them.

Oh ya, Leonel we can take your guarantee to the bank.

In some way's I want the Dominican AI's to fail because they are to reliant on their former glory. If the Dominican business elite begins to lose money. They will finally change their way's.

Why do this gloom and doom Dominican whine so much? It looks like their intended purpose is to influence negative opinion about the country using this English forum…. tourists have the choice of whether; to stay home or get cholera vaccination as is being advises by their post overseas.

exactly ,,antonio f ..but I doubt if any ever read this forum . it was really the unfortunate choice of words that the minister used that was agravating . but I agree with the minister that there are bound to be businesses overseas which will deliberately try to snare some of the tourists coming to the DR ..just with scare tactics

I think this sums up the last 15 years of wasted time, lies, excuses and a general apathy of the DR Government towards the productive future of a once (and potentially once again) thriving island republic where the welfare of one's family and neighbor trumped today's mentality of "screw another for a buck, cause everybody's doing it". It is quickly descending into a grave spiral and the next generation need to be educated in morality and community once again - only then will people actually have the capacity to absorb and use education, knowledge and build wisdom to pass on to others..
I must say, I agree with Leonel that it is not the quantity of education funds that dictate the overall education results of a nation, but the erection of a curriculum that competes g
