Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- The Jesuit organization Border Solidarity (SF) on Friday called for an urgent meeting between the Dominican and Haitian authorities to deal with where the commercial activities of the bi-national market will be held.

SF director and priest Regino Martinez said the lack of a legal framework and adequate regulations on commerce are among the errors of the market held Mondays and Fridays on the Dajabón side of the border, suspended since last week.

He cautioned that despite that it began 23 years ago, the structures have neither been provided nor the infrastructure created to make the market’s commercial activity viable. “The inaction of the authorities of both countries leads to reprisals and violence between the groups which take part in the benefits of the negotiation.”

In a statement, Martinez noted however that to achieve an adequate migratory transit the Haitians should be issued a visa and a pass to go to the market as vendors, while on the Haitian said its authorities should allow the opening of the new bridge so its citizens can sell their products and buy the staples they need.

“In addition to the international transport by (bus company) Caribe Tours, the Haitian people ask the Dominican authorities to allow the entry of the products supplied in the market,” the prelate said.

Martinez added that the situation las led “desperate groups of the population to react against powerful Haitian nationals who buy wheat, cooking oil, cement, wood and rebar in the large commercial centers, some of whose trucks have been torched.

"to deal with where the commercial activities of the bi-national market will be held."

El Factor's suggestion that a modern market place be constructed INSIDE Haiti with perhaps, my suggestion UN supervision, will greatly facilitate the situation. First, it would allow for greater control of the flows entering DR, as a significant population would NEVER gain access into DR territory. Only persons and items deemed certified or with legal permit would come into the DR. Since all the trade transactions would occur on the Haitian side of the border, far fewer individuals would leak into DR territory. Second, much has been said about corrupt DR border patrols in DT, but there are many Corrupt Haitian "Border Guards" facilitating the illegal trade in goods and PERSONS TOO!! The Jesuit organization Border Solidarity (SF) should perhaps deal with assisting the Haitian border patrols by augmenting their numbers and apprehending persons and goods trying to enter the DR illegally.

Wow

How does the story goes from:
------------------------------------------------------------
We Dominicans "should" help our neighbor.
To
We Dominican "Must" help our neighbor.
------------------------------------------------------------
What ever happened to

Haitians "must" do something for their country and YES that includes the Haitian diaspora too and everybody else "can" help but is NOT required to do so.

There is a big difference between "asking" and "demanding"

This is a load of crapt,

what we need is to build a wall 4 feet thick (1stage) Puerto de Manzanillo south to Dabajon all the way up to Banica, (2 stage) Banica to Elias Pinas, (3Stage) Elias Pina to Jimani and from there to Perdenales. Intall camera to deal with curropt guards at the gate. train a rapid respond teams, equipt them with helicopter, night vision equipment, dogs and crow control. and a good salary too. is good to dream but the reality is that someone want to

Open the Gate and let all the haitian in

Well how about it if instead of the DR perhaps the Pope in Rome and all of his ass kissing Cardinals and Bishops "must" help the desperate Haitians. The Vatican bank "must" send back to Haiti few billions dollars they stole from the Americas during colonization and inquisition. And let the Jesuit priests, the militant branch of the Roman Catholic church, "must" take care of the destitute Haitians instead of just making all that trouble and commotion like they always have done, but do nothing really productive to actually help the Haitian people.

These Jesuits remind me of the PRD party, a lot of talk and no action. They criticize and complain a lot, make strong opposition but never ever actually have or offer any real solutions.

F the Jesuits .

Telemeco we need some French attack dogs on the border ,I here they were very effective in the past!

FNP is the only way unless the PRSC revives itself and saves us from the hordes at the gates!

We have the army and the popular support for stronger action but our president is either a traitor or a coward and should lose his post !

100,000 visas per year for 10 years would put a stop to the population pressure. Again, these 100,000 visas per year would need to be given to Haitians 30 years old and under, to have significant current and future impact on the problem. 30,000 to the US, 10,000 to Canada, 30, 000 to Europe, and 30,000 to Africa(Senegal), etc., will do it. And if the first world don't want so many, they could always pay Senegal or others take them. France has French Guiana in South America that could help Europe meet its target amount easily.

And,

Create an export led model in Haiti. Massive, cheap jobs are far better than living off of hand-outs!

With clear and open access to NAFTA and EU, investors could be encouraged to invest in Haiti, thus bringing much needed jobs and economic vitality to the Nation and State.

First off, stop with all the comparisons and let's talk about the real issue. No country in the world allows ILLEGAL immigration like the DR is allowing now and that needs to STOP!

Dominicans are not responsible for Haitians. Haitians along with the International community including the diaspora need to help there people and country. Haitians however turn a blind eye to the problem and have done NOTHING to fix it!!!!!!!

Demand help from France, US, Canada because they can really make a difference in the fate of your country. Unfortunately, Haitians continue to be arrogant, unappreciative, and demanding the DR to solve there problems.

I say protest and put pressure on the big powers because they are the ones that can actually make a difference. The DR doesn't have that capacity!!!!!

Hatians stand-up and be proud of who you are and where you are from. Go help make a difference in Haiti and stop demanding the DR to solve your problems!

Actually Guillermone you are wrong on several counts .

First of all the Catholic Church is the biggest "NGO" in the world more than all the protestants combined!

Now I am no fan of the Jesuits but in todays church the Jesuits are not really in favor ,instead Opus Dei and other more conservative groups are and believe me they do not like the Jesuits who are simply communists in priests clothing.

Third if we are to demand retribution ,we will need retribution from the Protestant Brits ,the Protestant Americans ,The Voodoo Haitians etc.

As far as money "stolen" please provide an amount and a verifiable source ,because most of this reeks like the "black legend" sold by British protestants .

We haitians will do NOTHING about it.

This is a DR problem for DR to solve.

Stop all trade and migration between the two countries.

Force DR businesses to NOT hire Haitians.

Close and seal your border....you have the means and the resources to do so.

Stop the crying and whining and ACT.

When I am elected President of Haiti, everyone will have a job. If you don't have a job, you will be a fulltime volunteer. All volunteers will be compensated for their work with I owe you stamps and cantine. I will reinstate the death penalty, all executions will take place in the public square. Under my government, they will be plenty of food, peace and security.

Guillermone allow me to add to what you have mentioned and that is France is the prime culprit for dragging all of the slaves to the western side of the island. They should play a hand with the catholic church in making an effort to help the desperate souls.

Opus Dei- Do you wear your belt too, Do you whip your self everyday to prove your devotion to god( negga please)

France is the prime culprit for dragging all the slaves to the western side- At least we understand our history and proud of our origin can I say the same about you.

Where is the Haitian Diaspora- Last I check they are playing their position being the economic lifeline of the country. One of the key factor why mobile banking is being implemented in Haiti at the moment( thanks to a grant by Bill Gate) not the type you used from the app store.

Side note sensational headline common sense solution to a complex situation. I personally rather we on the Haitian side revert to prior the1991 US embargo against Haiti.
