Santo Domingo.– Diverse public events today will mark another
anniversary of the first Dominican Constitution, proclaimed in San
Cristobal in 1844, 166 years ago.
The events are organized by the National Congress, the Patriotic Events Commission and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

Thank you Atabey for posting that link. If people actually pay attention to those words, they would really understand that the article make sense and we should be proactive about that issue.
Here I have several questions for our fellow Dominicans that read DT.
What should we do and how should we do it? It is one of our most important homework as Dominicans and we better get it right. Don't you think ? Or you just don't care !!! Maybe just because we are living in another country and our identity is already fading away should not be an excuse for giving up. Adelante Quisqueyanos que ya es hora de empezar nuestra labor !!!

You guys are all very good about posting great information, pretty much about any topic you want. Well, I challenge all of you to be a little more patriotic and promote our country and values. I know you guys would do a great job. Stop criticizing each others and lets work together for a better DR. After all, I think the Dominican Republic deserves it. I can feel it in my blood. Que viva la Republica Dominicana. La cuna de America.

I opened a thread on the Forum section to see what our fellow posters have to say about the man and his vision. Whether you agree or disagree with him, there's no denying that he touched upon a very fundamental issue regrading DR identity and its future prospects. Duality on such a defined and compact island mass is seldom, if ever, a stable condition. As with the saying, "You can't be a little pregnant," the baby will at some point reach the stage that it wants out to express his determination of what ought be the definition of Dominican. But as Batlle expressed this determination within a dualistic framework will either lead us to a negation of ourselves and the slow takeover or Haitianization of the entire island or a firm stance in opposition to the same. But various international and intra-island interests are opposed to the later and do advance the former as the long-term "solution" to the non-viability of the eastern neighbor. Unless this definition is taken and affirmed

DR's future looks clouded with uncertainty and further chaos. At some future point a massive reaction and counter-reaction will commence; and the outcome is not predetermined to go our way.

A great day for confusion.... We celebrate that we're free of the haitians and enjoy many goodies but yet we are being over taken by haitians once again... The constitution needs major revisions and overhauls to maintain what we have sacrificed dearly for...

atabey, haitianalization or xenophobia? how are haitians going to take over the whole island if they dont have an army? we as dominicans have a choice, we either unified the island or spend our whole life talking about the haitians.

jarabacoa,
You are so funny!!!
Haitians don't have an army.
You don't need an army to take over a nation. It takes will and cleverness and you know what?
Haitians got it...it's exactly what they are doing right now. With the ignoramous Dominicans, like the retarded church priest who protects them and plus who knows how many more Dominicans saying, oh no, don't send them back...they are human being like us. What do you think will happen in a non-distanct future?
See, you don't need weapons to take over a country!!
Especially, DR....where illeteracy is rampant and most of Dominicans are more concerned about "La Presidente", "What to wear and What Not?" - however don't do anything about the Haitian issue. By the time some of you wake will be too late. We'll all be Haitians.
Just the way, special interests want it. It's up to us Dominicans to put a stop once and for all, otherwise you, especially Dominicans like you, if you are Dominican, better get ready..

to fight the non-army country known as Haiti.
In today's world, look at the English and French countries, overwhelmed whith Arabs and middle-eaterns. Fighting foreign land slidesof people. Did the Arabs shoot anybody as they were taking over?
That's exactly what Haitians are doing. And worse, no one is doing anything about it. I once thought DR had a chance. Now, it will never make it where is supposed to. Haitians will take it down and the story will be repeated. That's what we are being set up for. Total chaos and mayhem. "One cannot fight a stupid fight with a stupid person, otherwise the stupid one wins"
In other words, if any Dominican believe they will help Haiti by allowing Haitians to DR they are nuts. Haitians cannot handle themselves - much less anybody else.
If not ask, Floridians - there are a lot of good Haitians in Florida!!

I think it is rather strange to celebrate this initial constitution when it is has now all been changed without the population having any chance to vote on it ..not many people have any idea of what was in the old constitution and what is in the most recent one . But the DR has a great tradition of many holidays and so what is the harm in having one more .
