Santo Domingo.- The United States Government is concerned and has its eyes set on the deterioration in citizen security in Dominican Republic, as occurs in the entire region, an official of that nation revealed Monday, quoted in an exclusive phone interview by newspaper El Caribe.
U.S. Undersecretary of State for Central America and the Caribbean, Julissa Reynoso, said security is a pending topic for the Dominican Government.
“We don’t have something specific as a complaint but to generally improve the internal institutions that handle the question of security is obviously necessary, that is to say the jails, the courts, the Police. The Dominican Republic is a priority for us, given the size of the island which is part of, its geographic location and the type of impact which a very high level of criminality can have in that country,” the official said.
“We are very keen on that and the Dominican Government has also indicated to us that it is extremely concerned with the situation,” Reynoso said.
But insecurity isn’t Washington’s only concern, because she also noted that Dominican Republic needs to improve in the topics of inequality and development.
The United States Congress approved US$5.0 million for Dominican Republic during the current U.S. fiscal year (October this year to October 2011) as part of a package of US$45 million from the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) for this nation and includes other parts of the Caribbean.
“It is necessary to clarify that those five million dollars are from the Initiative, because the amount that we provide to that nation regarding security and topics of justice and prevention are much more than that,” added Reynoso.

Must be an election in the works or Leonel is about to borrow more money. Any money borrowed will certanliy not go for education, police protection or paying down the 500 million US dollars it owes the electric generators.

Folks, this is just Washington making its nascent new Corrector Julissa Reynoso, check out the "Notitia Dignitatum" for an historical account, better known to a troublesome part of the domain. She is being groomed for this job by the State Department. Consider her one of Hillary Clinton's girls. And that makes her, Julissa Reynoso, someone with power. Ms. Reynoso is part of the "Save Haiti" and the "DR had better do better" crowd, so coming after the 166 anniversary of Independence from Haiti, this does not bode well. Still, she can get into LF's ear really fast, so let's see how this pans out.

I neither believe the intent is benevolent nor are they truely concerned about the stability in the region at least not the way it appears. To the contraray, it is precisely the US who is indirectly responsible together with LF and IMF policies which created and will continue to create the present day and future"dwindling citizen security"
Folks, the social conditions are deplorable and rapidly deteriorating. Washington is getting ready, preparing grounds by making the DR vulnerable for their next move and Julissa Reynoso is their key pawn for check mate, where there will be no escape or defense possible for the DR
I keep repeating myself over-and-over again, unless the DR changes to effective leadership, we are screwed. This Dude Leo has no spine, can't stand-up against nobody. They are right citizen security is horrible with all those corrupt cops running around. Ask any typical Dominican who they are more scared of street criminals in the neighborhood, drug dealers, or the cops and you will be surprised to hear it is the cops people fear most. Why because they are corrupt. Their bosses are corrupt and they all feel they deserve their share. Big problem with this country is corruption and until its fixed nothing will ever get done.

we should attend to our business, how is the U.S keep itself from being all corruct like DR..it doent, the corruption is behond what Dominican corruption is, no one is policing the U.S why are the putting the nose in other countries,? because that remove the attention from itself. There is corruption in DR and many other countries,we should keep an eyes on our own problem, no one come to my house to tell my he does not like the way my house in painted.
Why it is you need to depend on someone else to tell you this thing, we have to learn as a society and fix our own problems, not other come and tell you, this is what sovereign country does. Haiti does not anything about that. they are a colony in the whole sence of the world, they depend and everything and everybody to fix they problems, is your argument to have others come in and tell us what to do, when to eat, what to wear or what color to paint your house should be painted. cause i should heck will not allow that.

I am so tired of everyone taking shots at everything the United States does, yet whenever they need help the US is there extending the hand. Maybe just maybe we should stop thinking of everyone else and just for a month hold back on all kinds of aid to the rest of the world including logistics, and money and see how soon they are all begging for our help.
