SANTO DOMINGO.- The United States Embassy revealed that Ramon del Rosario Puente (Toño Leña ) coordinated large shipments of cocaine and heroin from South America to Dominican Republic, to then transport by boats and planes to Puerto Rico and New York.
It’s Diplomatic Note to request his extradition affirms that Toño Leña, who in the drug trafficking world also used the nicknames "El Maestro", "El Charley", "El Palo", "El Bate", "El Tronco", "El Muelú" and "El Francés" had been in that business for around 10 years.
It adds that in an recorded meeting, del Rosario describes his large shipments of cocaine and heroin from South America, and his successful transfers by boat to Puerto Rico, and then to New York.
“Many of these shipments contained hundreds of kilos of cocaine and heroin" the U.S. Embassy said. "Del Rosario Puente has been recorded saying that he has been coordinating drug contraband operations towards Puerto Rico and the United States for around three years, " but noted that one of two confidants told the DEA that Toño Leña has been trafficking drugs since around 2000.
The U.S. Embassy also requests the confiscation of Toño Leña’s assets as material evidence to prove his alleged crime, in his imminent arraignment by the U.S. Federal District Court in Puerto Rico.
