SANTO DOMINGO. - Heavy vehicles will be banned on all of the country’s roads during the Christmas break, starting 12 noon Friday the 24th to 6 p.m. Monday the 27th, announced Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa on Wednesday.

He said for the yearend break the ban will be in effect from 12 noon Friday the 31st to 6 a.m. Monday, January 3.

The official said the measure aims to prevent the traffic accidents, with exceptions only for trucks which transport fuel and perishable foods, but require a permit issued by the Land Transit Agency for those days.

Ok so the economy will be paralyzed because they cant control the drivers and apply the law on the country's roads?
How can they afford to keep ground transportation at a stand still for 3 days two weeks in a row?

What are the business supposed to do with their merchandise ?

this doesnt make any sense, only in DR

Rainman, didn't you notice that the authorities will allow transport for a fee.

Require a permit issued by the Land Transit Agency for those days.

The fee naturally going to the government.

What a racket Leonel has going for the PLD, no wonder he wants to run for another term.

Both made good points, but.....people drink more on the Holidays and the idea of a drunk driver vs. a propane truck in a crowded city street brings shills down my spine.
