A classic, yes, but please, don't drive this weekend.

SANTO DOMINGO. – All trucks, tractor trainers and jalopies will be banned from all roads nationwide during the New Year festivities starting 12 noon Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, the Land Transit Office (OTTT) announced Thursday.

It said OTTT inspectors had already prevented those vehicles from using the roads during the exodus of people to the interior during the Christmas weekend, especially those with tires in bad condition.

OTTT inspectors also went to the terminals where they checked the buses which ply the routes to the different cities, to reduce the risk of traffic accidents, blamed for most of the deaths across the country.

It said vehicles that transport fuel and perishable goods are exempt from the ban.

I'd love to have that jeep in the picture though.

I guess this means that the buses will be the major bullies on the roads this week end ,,they seem equally to be able to disobey all road rules just as the truckies do

It is simple vehicles are either road worthy or they are not. If they are not they should not be on the road - end of story.

Most trucks will be off the road anyway, since it is a holiday. And the "jalopies" will be out in their usual numbers. It is hard to tell the driver of a junker to get off the road when he is sharing the road with people on horseback and people herding cattle down the roads, as is the case hereabout between Luperon and Puerto Plata where I drive. I did not see any difference in traffic during Christmas either (except there was NO traffic Christmas morning - and I bet there will be none on New Year's Day)

Yah, we get more than our share of the Cattle traffic jambs in the Cotui area also. You haven't lived until you got to weave your Motor between a bull and his harem
