PUERTO PLATA, Dominican Republic.- Antinarcotics (DNCD) agents arrested two Canadians in the local airport as they were about to board a Thursday night flight back to their country with eight kilos of cocaine.
Yves Debois, 46, and Christian Rioux, 28, each had more than 300 bags weighing 7.93 kilos taped to leotards beneath their trousers,
DNCD spokesman Ramon A. Rodriguez said the investigation may lead to other arrests in the botched drug smuggling.
The airport X-ray machine detected the drug on the foreigners as they passed through the security checks prior to boarding West Jet flight 2617 to Toronto.

That's a lot of drugs to be carrying on your person. Not too smart and definitely not worth the risk. Don't these two know the proper way to smuggle drugs out of the country is to pay the corrupt Dominican officials and walk right on by. Maybe they didn't get the memo.

LOL...I know all about Quebec and as a Canadian, well studied in history and politics of my native country.
When Quebec decides politically to play by the same rules and regulations as the rest of the country, then I will have a greater respect for the political agenda.
As for French being spoken across the country....aside from New Brunswick (29.7%),
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Canada .... French is NOT even a pin prick on the rest of the nation, yet is required by law on all product and services. What a waste of money...all to make a few radical history buffs happy.
Haiti was once ruled by the French...where are they now??????
That is not to belittle the society, but to put it in the real perspective. Quebec is a distinct society. Nowhere else in Canada is...nor does it posture itself to be. Canada is a melting pot of cultures and heritage...each one respected, but not exclusive.

This website is loaded with hypocrites because when a Dominican goes to jail most around here claim that the prisons are luxury hotels with privileges, but when a foreigner gets locked up the prisons becomes hell on earth. Now that's what I like to call talking out of one's stinking ass.
From: Dominican Republic
Gringo...so...the answer to maintaining the French language is to force it on those who will never speak it anyways? As I said, I have absolutely no problem with Quebec choosing it's own destiny.
But why force the language on others???
As quoted.... "In 2006, just over 6.6 million Canadians spoke French at home. Of these, 91.2% resided in Quebec. Outside Quebec, the largest French-speaking populations are found in New Brunswick (which is home to 3.5% of Canada’s francophones) and Ontario (4.4%, residing primarily in the eastern and northeastern parts of the province and in Toronto). Overall, 69% of Canadians cannot speak French; outside of Quebec only 11% of Canadians report that they can have a conversation in French.
So...for aside from Quebec for the most part plus areas of New Brunswick and those primarily in the Ottawa region of Ontario, about 98% of other regions of the country do not speak French, nor are they likely to in future generations.
continued...
From: Dominican Republic
As mentioned, only 11% claim to have conversational French skills, which means that the mandated in 1999 has done little to improve the popularity of the language at least in Ontario ( where the data is from).
