ISRAELI COMPANY WON BIDDING, last paragraph

SAN ISIDRO.- Vice president Rafael Alburquerque yesterday headed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Command and Control Center of 3D Air Surveillance Radar, in San Isidro Airbase, to detect violations of the country’s airspace.

Dominican Air Force (FAD) Chief of staff Rafael Altuna Tezanos said together with the Super Tucano intercept planes, the Command Center and the radars complete its team to detect the aircraft involved in drug trafficking and other illicit activities.

Although he didn't specify the cost of the facility, the senior officer affirmed that an Israeli company won a bidding for its construction.

The FAD also graduated more than 500 cadets and inaugurated several works, to mark its 62nd anniversary in its headquarters yesterday.

Israeli company won tender offers

The Israeli company which won the tender offers, 1AI-ELTA, will build the facility at a cost of US$34.6 million

500 cadets, two Super Tucanos, wow! I would expect a frenzy on par with feeding hyenas.

I am in full support of the acquisition of these airplanes. They are the right type of aircraft for a country of modest means such as DR represents. Too bad they didn't plan ahead and acquired necessary radar units prior to receipt of planes.

Not every military man is corrupt, and am sure some wish to do good; time will tell.

The planes, with complementary radar, when in place, should serve us well in quest to minimize Dominican airspace infiltrations by smugglers-if we want to. The system will have requisite capability; I just hope that responsible authorities will be up to the task. I shall remain hopeful.

Daswolf,

Why would you use a sledgehammer to kill a fly?

We are not involved in dogfights here. We are trying to interdict slow flying and lesser vessels. DR has neither the technology or the money to fly, maintain or acquire the high performance aircraft you promote.

The Tucanos are correct for our needs.

I,ll say better that DR could have the tagnology, qualificated personal and the money necesarilly to buy any tipe of aircrafts the country need; that is an impossible just because the incalculated amount of money gain for the country in many many diferent economical activity go strait to the corructed President and all his even more corructed politician and goverment relatives.

Just imagen the tons of money received true the explotation of the precious metal (Gold, covalt, ferronickel, etc) were's the money?
