Santo Domingo.– Two U.S. missionaries under investigation in Haiti on child kidnapping charges will remain in jail while a Haitian judge checks their testimony that they wanted to set up an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.

Judge Bernard Sainvil said he would seek information in the Dominican Republic about Laura Silsby and Charisa Coulter, who were among 10 American missionaries arrested last month as they tried to take 33 Haitian children over the border following the devastating January 12 earthquake in the Caribbean country.

The group had no identity documents for the children or permission to take them out of the country. Many of the children's parents subsequently came forward to say they had turned them over voluntarily to the missionaries in the belief they would have better care in the hands of the Americans.

Sainvil on Wednesday freed eight of the missionaries, most of whom are members of a Baptist church in Idaho. The group was arrested on January 29, 17 days after the magnitude 7 earthquake that killed at least 212,000 people.

I wish that judge sainvil will show the same interest in finding and punishing those who are holding Haitian children in slavery in Haiti

Who paid what & How much....!!~~~!!!~

their attorney is a pedifile....

The ring leaders have been charged with kidnapping in the past....

YET....This is totally illegal," said Yves Cristalin, Haiti's social affairs minister. "No children can leave Haiti without proper authorization and these people did not have that authorization."

These ten missionaries, after being refused in Port au Prince, went to a small devastated village and rather than help families in their hour of need, they convinced parents to give up their children so they might live in better conditions. They broke apart families when they were desperate and vulnerable. At least one report said the children would be available for adoption for a processing fee of $10,000.

It's hard to put a good face on this story.

8 released in a effort to show the world Haiti still has some sort of working Government........nothing like a good PR job for Haiti !

Word has it the Haitian Government hopes the US will continue aid to Haiti to help and rebuild there nation....only time will tell.

I have no ill felling towards Haitians, but....

Yesterday I spoke to my Aunt by phone in Santo Domingo which She informed me of a massive Haitian illegal emigration / invasion. Food, power and fuel prices have sky rocketed and one has to take extra caution when traveling around town.
Good honest Dominicans believe crime, unemployment and hopelessness will only rise.

HAITIANS MUST HELP TO REBUILD THEIR OWN NATION AND IN SO DOING SO WILL RISE IN THEIR OWN NATIONAL PRIDE.

Remember the old saying......

"Give a man fish he'll eat for a day thus becoming DEPENDENT, teach a Man to fish he'll eat every day thus becoming SELF-SUFFICIENT / RELIANT and depended on NO ONE".

All take care.

rios no serious effort has never been taken to stop the illegal entry of Haitians in the Domiican Republic and this from both governments.
it has never been clear when Haitians are needed or not needed in the Dominican Republic , how many are needed and for how long.

In Functioning democracy, changes are typically borught about by:

1) Ballot
2) Protest

Item No. 1 has already failed.

To what extent has Item No. 2 been employed relative to illegal immigration?

Look, if we need immigrants for some work sectors let's at tleast have orderly and dignified process, where we control who comes in and in what numbers. This could be a legal and symbiotic relationship. Let's face it, there are some jobs Dominicans just won't do, so we might need immigrants to fill that gap. That's reality.

One thing still puzzling me is how with such exorbitant property cost in DR, we cannot afford to pay a decent wage, to get more Dominicans into construction. Profits must clearly be monumental! Often times, I feel like you can get better value in Florida, especially in this depressed market.

Nobody has documentation in Haiti and the adults have no problem crossing ILLEGALLY into DR without documentation!

You want the news? Here it is:

I say throw them in a hole and leave them there.

Chocan en tierra uno de dos Tucano
Uno de los dos aviones Súper Tucano que llegaron al país hace dos meses se encuentra averiado en un hangar de la base aérea de San Isidro, tras ser chocado en la pista por uno de los pilotos.

Jb,

This, about the Tucanos, if true, can't be good.

Do you have link to corroborating story? You know, a story of this magnitude demands citation of authoritative source for credibility.

The usual suspects shall have a field day with this news.

This won't change my mind abut the planes. I still believe they are correct for DR and necessary. This, if true, could have been a most unfortunate accident. I just hope ineptitude didn't play a part in it.

Stay tuned.

Etiennc01,
True, no argument there.....

But nothing like rich American's by Haitian standards caught kidnapping 30 plus Children crossing the border with the DR while the world watches......

I believe when 2 or more conspire to commit a crime is called a conspiracy, yet for fear of losing one of their biggest contributor of badly needed aide, exceptions to the rule are made, then apply.

Take care.
