Santo Domingo.- A Monday night blaze affected one floor of the tower Caney, the country’s tallest building, located in the upscale Anacaona Park Row, with no reports of damages.

Santo Domingo Fire Department chief Oscar Garcia said the fire occurred, in the air conditioning controls and propane gas pipes on the 38th floor.

The official affirmed that the 39 floor structure lacks a fire extinguishing system.

Can you believe that one of the tallest buildings in the DR lacks a fire extinguish system. !!!! Now talk about cutting corners. What are they waiting for?

How convinient, that a fire broke-out on one of the tallest and newest building in town after that it was determind that 70%(10%) of the buildings in DR was QUAKE proof. It looks like something we NYer's call JEWISH lightning.

JEWISH lightning - When a building mysteriously catches on fire and lightning was to blame without a cloud in the sky ( lol) , the end results is a new building or cash in on the insurance.

It also shows there is no correlation between wealth and intelligence.

You would think that the most buyers of these over priced apts. in that ugly building are above average educated persons would have asked about fire extinguishing systems and other safety features before they purchased.

Future "Leaning Tower Wtihout Pizza of Santo Domingo".

This is laughable, as a building in DR is more likely to experience a serious fire than a strong earthquake. Imagine, if they didn't add fire prevention/protection equipment to cut corners-could they really have designed to be earthquake proof? I think not.

I foresee lots of drug money evaporating after this news. Perhpas they could get ten cents on the dollar.

eugenia1,

The workers are only there to follow the direction of the construction managers and code enforcement is the responsibility of government officials.

And in both the municipal authorities and the state authorities it is the “super modern and qualified” PLD crooks that are in charge!

So lets not dump this on the backs of the day laborers, who get third worldl salaries while the owner/developers make first world profits!

ateo,
In any real first class city like Chicago, NYC, or any other major city in USA, the building inspectors would have been all over this place. The building would be shut down until it was brought up to code and provides safe living for the tenants...

Small blaze in a building with many people can become a major problem, many people can die even the ones on the upper floors can die from the smoke if they have no way out...

This building is built the right way with all its codes, nothign is perfect not even those buildings you mentioned in LA. This fired wasn't caused by construction failure it was mane made , like someone smoking a cigarette or something else.

lol josean

ateo... a few questions for you
Did you build this building?
Where you present 24/7 to view the shady construction workers?
Where you present when they submitted plans for permit approvals?

You have nothing to back your words up... This building might look nice from the outside, but how are you so sure that "this building was built the right way"?

High rises should always have the highest building codes because when something fails, many can die.

use to think when i was one young man growing up and i saw a guy in a big fancy car that he was one business man or something and must be very intelligent..... man did i LEARN FAST. that was not the case. and it was far from it. in the least..

i think most of the condos if not all where bought with drug money or from people that work inside the government. in santo domingo. i been talking for one year about problems in the high rise buldings or in fact any building in the dr., but lets stay with santo domingo lets say they had a real fire dept where are they going to get the water from? and when the fire trucks are rushing to one fire is any of the cars in front of them going to get out of the way like in the states?... with all the traffic in santo domingo the new york fire dept could not reach the building on fire in time with help for any one inside.

u think toyota is telling the truth?.... it seems they keep changing their song.
well i guess the car dealers will be in the states buying up 1,000 of them in the next few weeks cheap so they can sell them in the dr.
as they buy and sell cars that are totaled in the states and can not be sold in the states but they are good enough for the dr
u think dealers in the dr care about your safety?or do they care about making big dollars off peoples lives?., guess they care as much as the folks that build the condos in the dr... the inspectors, code enforcers.ect!... well enjoy your ride home in your toyota to your fancy condo in santo domingo.
