Santo Domingo. – Vice resident Rafael Alburquerque yesterday affirmed that what Dominicans feel today is the heartbeat of the horror of Rafael Trujillo’s 31 year tyranny.
His statement comes in response to the late dictator’s youngest daughter, Angelita, who in her book wrote that memories of Trujillo are still felt in the Dominican people’s heartbeat.
“What’s felt here is the heartbeat of the horror, the crime and terror of 31 years of a tyranny,” said Alburquerque, interviewed during an activity in the Ministry Labor.
In her book “Trujillo, my Father,” Angelita affirms that her father “after almost 50 years since his death still lives he heartbeat of Dominicans.”
The tyrant’s daughter writes that “with dazzling clarity my father knew towards where he must lead the country” and that he always fought to establish a free and sovereign nationalistic regime.

We Dominicans don't miss the brutality of being sent to concentration camps, being tortured savagely and murdered, for just stating your opinion. Or having your daughter kidnapped and raped by the Trujillo gangsters. Or having slow moving cars patrol the streets looking for patriots, like they were rats to throw them in the ocean full of sharks. Or being subjected to the most nightmarish tortures in Trujillo's prison, that not even Hitler in his hey day had the stomach to use. Or living in the constant state of daily fear, that his sycophants jealous of you could accuse you of being an "enemy of the state", just to take over your business or your possessions.
Yes, Dominicans do still remember the nightmare that Trujillo, the devil incarnate, brought upon a generation of Dominicans, and the thousands upon thousands of Dominicans and other nationalities, that where brutally murdered by this "gavillero" and cheap cattle rustler.
May Trujillo rest in hell with all his henchmen.

In 1916, the U.S. occupied the island due to threats of defaulting on foreign debts. The occupying force soon established a Dominican army constabulary to restore order. Seeing opportunity, Trujillo impressed the recruiters and was soon promoted through the ranks. When U.S. troops left the island in 1924, they left Trujillo in charge

Trujillo used his political control to obtain great personal wealth. He achieved support from the United States by becoming Latin America's leading anti-communists. Cordell Hull, US Secretary of State (1933-1944), defended Trujillo by saying: " He may be a son-of-a-bitch, but he is our son-of-a-bitch."

President Dwight Eisenhower began to change his opinion of Trujillo after the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista by Fidel Castro in January, 1959. Eisenhower observed that: "It's certain that American public opinion won't condemn Castro until we have moved against Trujillo."

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) also warned Eisenhower that Trujillo was so unpopular in Dominican Republic that it was only a matter of time before he became the victim of a left-wing revolution. Therefore it was suggested that the CIA should become involved in replacing him with a more suitable pro-American supporter. CIA's Black Operations (Executive Action) was brought in to remove Trujillo.

This plan had the support of President Romulo Betancourt of Venezuela. He told Eisenhower: "If you don't eliminate him, we will invade". A training camp was setup in Venezuela by Dominican exiles flown there from the United States and Puerto Rica by the CIA. This group had been recruited from the privileged sectors of Dominican society in order to make sure that the overthrow of Trujillo did not result in the establishment of a communist government.

Trujillo should and can not totally take all of the blame for the atrocities commited against Dominican society. If there are any added responsibilities, it must go to the US government who knowingly allowed and permitted a demented-megalomaniac leader to rule as a despot as long as he (like every other Latin American dictators at the time) supported American interests. It was only after Trujillo turned against "los yankis" did the US decide to get rid of him, but instead of doing the dirty work themselves washed their hands and through others carried out the assasination of the Goat.

Yes, let us give credit where credit is due. I agree, and do not deny, Trujillo was a Dominican nationalist, a patriot, an effective military leader and a very efficient administrator. The Trujillo clan placed our tiny little under developed Caribbean island on the map and the world took notice. He did enough positive things to give legitimacy to his government. However, I take this matter personal, we must NEVER forget, turn a blind eye to the injustices and atrocities committed against an uncle, my mother's brother, but above all, the abuse on Dominican society at every level with the US government as the accomplice. Tan culpable es el que mata la vaca, como el que le agarra la pata.

This is factual that before the revolution , about 85 % of Cubas infrastructure was owned and controlled by our benevolant Uncle and if Castro had not come on the scene , Cuba would by this time have a sign hanging on its front door that says ''Beinvenidos a Cuba , American owned and operated since 1959 ''. The reality is , that if Uncle S. had allowed Castro to be the majority share holder in his own country , he would of been just as willing to move as far to the right as he did to the left ..Unfortunatley , Unc didnt get to hang his sign on Hispanola either .( That is until the great quake of 2010 ).

Until October 1937, perejil, the Spanish word for parsley was just an herb sold in all of the peasant markets along the border shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic (DR). But one week in October, the word "perejil" became the arbiter of life and death. Those who could not roll the "r" off their tongues to show their Spanish heritage would face the machete's blows. By the end of that month, 20,000 bodies would disappear into mass unmarked graves or travel downstream with the river.
By the order of Dictator Raphael Trujillo and under the watchful silence of the Haitian president, entire communities along the Haitian-Dominican border were destroyed overnight. Dominicans who were once neighbors, friends and even spouses of Haitians were expected now to subscribe to Trujillo's vision for a mono-cultural and unilateral nation.

Trujillo's mass murder of Haitians simply reflects the inner self-hatred personality of a sociopath.
I have provided below a summary of most common characteristics typical of sociopaths and Trujillo fits most of them to a T.
The most notable features of his behavior were: delinquent teen-ager, sexually promiscuous with no limits, grandious sense of self-worth, lacked shame and remourse, callous towards others, poor impulse control and manipulative.
But above all Trujillo falsely "believed to be all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
From: United States
Profile of the Sociopath:
Glibness and Superficial Charm
Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."
Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
From: United States
(conti)
Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
Incapacity for Love
Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
From: United States
(conti)
Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.
