I believe the real independence will show in the next Dominican elections.

As the saying goes.......

"Real leaders lead by example"..........do as I do not as I say.

"Real leaders lead you out, not in".......no way but up.

"True leadership can not be confined to one MAN",.....history has taught us this.

"True leadership is making those around you into leaders them selves"..........greed and power go hand "N" hand.

"Real leaders know who their leaders are"...........self serving ?

Darn there I go again.

We are Dominican, is our DAY, if you're Haitian I can understand your position, but as for me:
QUE VIVA LA REPUBLICA DOMINICANA, LA MAS BELLA DE TODAS, EL UNICO PAIS CON UNA BIBLIA EN SU BANDERA, abierta en el libro de Juan 8:32; " y conocereis la verdad, y la verdad te hara libre".

after all the help , the love ,and the compassion that Domininans have showed toward Haitians in their darkest days, today we are all Dominicans.
I can understand the anger of the nostalgic perejil cannibals who want to perpetuate a fight between the two countries , Haiti and the Dominican Republic are condemned to live together unless a strong earthquake split the island of Hispaniola into two separate islands along the Haitian Dominican border.
If this happens , I would hope that these two seperate islands float away from each other. That would sure make meat head carlos franco and the el mamaguevo2010 very happy

jose n ann
I am stiil defending you .
i tell everyone that you are not that angry Haitian that they think you are
Please do not let me down today.

On this solemn day of our commemoration of those who have given their lives so someday we can truly be INDEPENDENT, LIE-onel Fernandez true to his name LIES to the Dominican Masses.

"En su discurso de rendición de cuentas, pronunciado este sábado 27 de febrero, Día de la Independencia Nacional, el gobernante dijo que no se trata de que exista una corrupción generalizada, sino de casos aislados,"

He claims that corruption is not systematic or wide spread that is only isolated to a few individuals.

This guy SPITS in the face of the Dominican people and when we protest he tells us it’s Raining!

"Can someone please remind me why we became independent from Haiti ???"

In November 15, 1821, several frontier towns near the border with Santo Domingo raised the Haitian flag as a show of independence. Dominicans' opposing unification with Haiti declared independence from Spain on November 30, 1821.The new nation was known as El Haití Español (Spanish Haiti). On December 1, 1821, the leaders of the new nation resolved to unite Spanish Haiti with Gran Colombia.

Some politicians and military officers in Santo Domingo favored unification with the Republic of Haiti. Former slaves sought to secure emancipation under Haitian President Jean-Pierre Boyer. Another faction based in Dajabon, near the border, opposed union with Gran Colombia and supported Boyer.

Boyer sought to protect his country from the danger of France or Spain's retaking Haití Español and attacking or re-conquering Haiti. He wanted to maintain Haitian independence and secure the freedom of the slaves in Haití Español.

After promising protection to several Dominican frontier governors and securing their allegiance, Boyer invaded the Dominican Republic with a force of 50,000 soldiers in February 1822. These forces encountered resistance from the white population. On February 9, 1822, Boyer formally entered the capital city, Santo Domingo, where Núñez turned over the keys to the city. Dominicans reacted uneasily to the Haitian invasion.

The island of Hispaniola was now united under one government from Cape Tiburon to Cape Samana. By awarding land to Haitian military officers at the expense of former members of the Spanish forces of Santo Domingo, Boyer reduced his influence with the Spanish-Haitian leadership. He continued the policy of Alexandre Pétion, his former political mentor, of helping free people of color in other Spanish Latin American colonies resist the Spanish crown. Boyer ignored Haitian political opponents who called for reforms, such as parliamentary democracy, and veteran generals of the War of Independence, who believed that the revolution was not complete and that they were being neglected.

This is a day to celebrate the birth of our nation and everything Dominican, even if it isn't perfect. To criticize it would be disrespectful to those who gave blood and life to free it.

This is a day to remember and thank our ancestors who gave us the freedom to disagree in the present.

I recognize things could clearly be better, yet I remain proud and appreciative of my homeland-in spite of its numerous impefections.

Just for this occasion, let's put our philosophical differences aside and let's celbrate our country and let's endeavor to make it better and correct the numerous worngs. Let's endeavor to be less dependent on government and to prosper.

etiennc01,

Thank you for your statement against censorship.

Unfortunately Ateo has not yet arrived at a point in his life to understand what freedom of expression is or the principle of the way to fight what one considers "bad" speech is to allow more fee speech.

Ateo,

This is for you my friend, please reflect on it. If you understand its broader meaning it will help guide throughout your life. It will assist you in trying to be on the right side of the issues and people regardless of who they are.

"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me."

Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

Ateo I will be there for you, the question is will you be there for me?

Then they came for the Christians, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Christian;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for the gays—and there was no one left to speak out for Josean."

Josean,please get a room!!

Start a thread in the forum dedicated to your hatred of Leonel ,but please stop pissing on any thread that has to do with DR in general...27th of February is an important date regardless of political ideology for all Dominicans ,not only for Peledeistas and it has nothing to do with freedom of speech ,rather it has to do with respect and decency! I dislike many of Leonel's actions (I am not as fanatical as you) but you act as if they took your "botella" away and gave it to someone else.Don't worry ,eventually the Partido Robolucionario Dominicano will win and you will have a steady kickback coming your way ...

Pepe,

One would hope that after your absence you would at least come back with some humor!
