Santo Domingo. - Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales yesterday confirmed that two Dominican diplomats were arrested in Caracas, Venezuela, while trying to sell forged bonds of that country’s Central Bank on Monday.

The official, who said he has no details of the incident, affirmed having ordered “the pertinent inquiries” as soon as the information was obtained.

The Z-101 FM radio morning program broke the news was yesterday and revealed that a retired general was also arrested together with the diplomats, whose names have yet to be disclosed.

The diplomats, who allegedly tried to cash US$28 million in forged bonds, were released on their diplomatic immunity, whereas the retired general, whose name the Dominican authorities have yet to provide, accompanied them to the Central Bank, where the arrests occurred.

The news broke when the retired general reportedly requested the assistance of a lawyer in the country.

Repeat offenses

It’s not the first time Dominican diplomats and from other Latin American nations are caught trying to defraud Venezuela’s Central Bank, said Z-101 FM radio, adding that it’s the third time for those from the Caribbean nation.

Hugoism ....This economic philosophy used to be known as Carternomics, described by Reagan as: "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."

When this PLDistas are going to stop their shameful acts ? That talk bad about every Dominican on the face of the world.

Getting rich is the goal of these politician , they know that there will be no more chance in a long time to get their hands on the people money.

I like to know if that moron knows anything about diplomacy or international relationship or if he is in that position just because he belongs to the party of the government or he is a friend of the President .

I bet that he doesn't know what diplomacy means. Shame on Lie-onel Fernandez.

The news behind the news is that relations with nutty Hugo are circling the toilet bowl, as if they had been in good standing, this whole incident would have been swept under the rug, and the diplomats sent home with a slap on their wrist.
I'll be curious to know who the ex-general was, but a little bird told me that he was one closely associated with Hipoloco Mejia, with a serious compulsive gambling problem. Who could that be?

Perfect timing... during the Caribbean World Series where many Dominicans are visiting Venezuela for the event. These diplomats should be hanged, especially if any ignorant retaliations occur towards Dominicans visiting Venezuela because of these idiots.

Here's the worst part.

These clowns will return home where they have no diplomatic immunity, but nothing will happen to them here, either.

danny 00 I agree ..why ever look at the TV ..the real tragedy is that there seems to be an entire generation of Dominicans of a certain social level who are quite without any morals..the desire to quickly get rich quickly leads them to even more greed and more dishonesty and when they get the money they care nothing about the Dominicans who have lived their lives more honestly .
It is a cycle that I hope the young Dominicans can break

I say something SHOULD happen to these "Diplomats"....our law here in DR is that the culprit has to be "caught red-handed".

Well, they HAVE. Let's see if Fernandez grows a couple and does the right thing.

Not our government's style to name names.

Maybe their girlfriend's names, but that would be about as far as they would go. After all, the person releasing the names might be next.

Hugo,

Please ask Fidel for advice on how to dispose of these varmints, and I will be good with whatever he tells you-except returning them to DR.

BTW, maybe it is just a bad picture, but doesn't the Central Bank of Venezuela building look more like a rat trap factory than a bank? Building lacks aesthetic appeal, but maybe it is just not photogenic.

Josean,,I have not changed any thing much ..the only major disagreement we have is on the economy the advancement of infrastructure, the borrowing programme and on the preformance of this administration in economic areas .
in matters relating to the corrupt nature of officials ,I am appalled why this administration has not done more to change things .
But I have met more wonderful Dominicans than bad ones by a huge ration so I have faith in the country .
